This is "Buttery," a female Monarch butterfly that the kids found at a farm where we go each week for a hands-on science lesson. She had a deformed foreleg, and couldn't fly. We took her home, and tried to take care of her.

We fed her Peach Mango juice...we'd put a few drops into a little shell, and put it in front of her. It was fascinating to watch her unfurl her proboscis to drink the juice.

David liked to hold her:

She lived with us for 8 days, which we know was probably 8 days longer than she'd have lived if we'd left her on the ground at the farm.
The first two pictures are hosted at Photobucket; the last one is at Flickr. I have a widescreen monitor, so I don't know how big these look on a "normal" screen. Please let me know which size is better. Thanks!
