January, Resolutions? or Goals?
Happy New Year everyone! January has come and almost gone. Have you taken the time to set some New Year's Resolutions for your homeschooling? Or are you like me and prefer to call them "Goals"? "Resolution" just seems to me to be something that can be broken. Whereas "goals" are things you can work towards.
We are halfway through the 2006/2007 school year. Are you on track with your child(ren)'s homeschooling goals? Some simple questions you can ask yourself:
1. What have we covered so far in this school year?
2. Have the children enjoyed our home-educating experience so far?
3. Are there any areas you can see need improving on?
4. Do you expect too much of your children? Not enough?
5. Are you experiencing homeschool burn-out?
As I evaluate our school year so far I see that we have accomplished most of what we set out to do this year. Our biggest goal was to have my 2nd youngest, now age 7, become a fluent reader. This has been accomplished! Yeah!! I've always believed that once a child learns to read then all other learning is a breeze.
Someone shared a good quote with me that I think is a wonderful goal to have in homeschooling:
"The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn."
--John Lubbock
If I can instill in my children a wish to learn, then I have accomplished more than any mom could home to accomplish in her homeschooling endeavors.
