Well ladies and gentlemen, it is time once again for the Guam Homeschool Association's Annual Curriculum Fair!
This is a wonderful opportunity for homeschooling families to sell and buy used curriculum and books, for new families, thinking about homeschooling to view displays of curriculum options and to learn more about homeschooling on our wonderful island.
The fair will take place this Saturday, March 31st from 9am to 3pm. It will be held at the Tamuning Senior Citizen's Center.
Directions:
On South Marine Corps Drive, heading North
Turn left on Route 14 heading to Guam Premier Outlet (at intersection of FHP/Take Care and ITC Bldg.)
Turn left before King's Restaurant
Pass GTA substation, Tamuning Mayor's Office (brown/orange bldg.) and Tamuning Gym (white w/blue bldg.)
Tamuning Senior Citizens Center is the next building (yellow bldg.) immediately after the gym.
There will be a $2 fee (minimum) per family to cover the cost of facility usage (utilities) which will be given to the Tamuning Mayor's Office.
This is a great time to view different types of curriculum and manipulatives being used, buy and sell used curriculum, reading books, videos, tapes, etc. It is also a chance for some of our moms to share their home businesses with us. Hopefully, some of our veteran homeschooling moms and dads will be on hand to give direction to prospective, new and even current homeschoolers.
Tables will be laid out as follows:
Entrance Table. This will be at the entrance to the Center where we will be collecting the $2 fee for each family. Each family will be required to sign in. Application forms will be available for new families/members.
Curriculum Table. The first section will have tables with different types of teaching curriculum brought by homeschooling families. For example - we usually have an A Beka table that will have different grade levels and subjects laid so that those interested can view all the books involved in teaching a particular subject or all the books required to teach a specific grade level. If anyone is able to bring a portable DVD player/TV or TV/VCR combo, we will be able to play some of the DVD programs that are being used.
Used Books. The second section will have tables for families who are selling used curriculum, resources, reading books, videos, tapes, etc. Each person will be responsible for manning their own table and taking in the money for their sales. Be sure to bring money to make change with. If you have curriculum that you would like to sell but you are still using it, you can indicate that it is for sale after you are done with it. Vendor Tables. The third section will have tables for each vendor/homeschooling family such as Creative Memories, Pampered Chef, Usborne Books, Tupperware, etc. Some of our families have home businesses to 1) supplement family incomes 2) provide resources for homeschoolers and teachers and 3) simply as hobbies.
Some of our teenagers will be selling some type of food for lunch, baked goods and drinks. This will provide an opportunity for our children to learn to work together and earn money at the same time.
Even if you are not needing to buy or sell curriculum, it would be an encouragement if all GHSA members show up and provide support! It's a nice time to chit chat with others in our group. |
