Homeschool Memoirs #17: Chores

Categorized in Memes

I know all I ever post is the Homeschool Memoirs meme, but truly, I have not the slighest idea what to write about. So, if you would like to hear my opinion on a subject or me post on a particular idea or thing, please let me know.

Now, back to the meme.

forward to hearing t

Oh how often we either say it or hear it … “Too much to do, not enough time!”? I hear it and say it quite often. How do you manage all the tasks you have to complete in just 24hours? There are a lot of different methods on how to get chores and organizing done. Some have a strict schedule others just kinda wing it.

THEME:

This week I would you to share how chores are done in your home. How you order your day with school and getting housework done. How do you decide which chores should be done by which child, of which age? I’m looking forward to hearing them!

At my house we have a sort of schedule but are more loose with it. Like Monday - Saturday each person (not including the Dudes) has one specific area to clean. For example-

On Monday I clean the kitchen/dining room area. Alli cleans our bathroom, Zoe cleans the living room and entry way areas, and Mama does the laundry every other day.

The above chores are what gets done every day. Well, besides the laundry. I am more of a floater than my sisters, so I do mainly what I would regularly do (chore wise), help my 8yo sister with her chores (occasionally when needed), help Mama keep up with what everyone is doing, and work along side Mama.

Also, we are required to get our chores done before we start on school. This rule was set in place because we got side-tracked with school and didn't remember our chores until the end of the day.

Usually our day goes something like this.

Morning- breakfast, chores, and showers.

Mid-morning- Alli and Zoe start on school, while Mama and I take care of and play with the Dudes and get laundry under way.

At about 11:30 or 12pm we break for lunch.

By now Alli and Zoe are either done or mostly done with school. This is when Alli and I switch up. Alli takes care of the Dudes with Mama while I work on school. Zoe will probably be finishing up school at this time.

Around 3pm or 3:30 I am done with school. This is what is called "crunch time" at our house. That's when supper is being fixed, the Dudes are cranky, the house is being cleaned up, and when everything else that we didn't get to during the day is being done.

Then there are after super chores. I wash or load the dishes in the dishwasher (or both), Alli usually dries the dishes (if needed), puts away leftovers and keeps the Dudes out of my hair while I am cleaning. Zoe normally wipes the counters, table, highchairs, and chairs along with sweeping the dining room and kitchen.

To: the Anonymous commenter (who I think is Jake)- May I ask exactly why you keep posting comments with all 26 ABCs in them? And no name?

To: tn3jcarter
Yes, it does keep them quiet occupied (at times). But usually they have more dangerous and naughty things to do like jump off of chairs, sweep (eh, weeellll, not really..... They REALLY sword fight instead. But you know.), pour their juice cups on the floor, put dirty laundry in the dryer, things like that. You probably get the idea.

Sounds like you have a great system worked out there and I am sure Mom appreciates all the help with the Dudes! :) Soon enough they will start to learn how to do chores.

About Me
My name is Hannah, but I am also known as Missy Lou. I am a 13yo homeschool high school student. I love the Lord with all my heart and hope you will see Him in me. I am the oldest of 5 kids and love my family very much!
However, I am not a perfect person. Jesus Christ is my role model and I strive to please Him only. I truly hope you are blessed by your visit here. It is my prayer that this blog glorifies the Lord in every way.
I enjoy sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, and looking after my 2yo brothers. They have made such a difference in my life! They are constantly teaching me many things! My sisters and Mama are my best friends. Although I didn't always think mamas and sisters were to be best friends.
