The mountains of snow we had in December and January seem but an abstract memory as the radiance of spring permeates our spirits! The regenerative consequences of spring are evident in the happy, sing-song voices of children playing outside, and everyone’s more cheerful countenance.
We used to call it “spring fever” when I was a youngster. The idea was that the alluring weather, the budding earth and the exhilaration offered by being in God’s creation rended us away from serious thought and enticed us instead to play, dream and explore. Those carefree days populate my memories and bring joy to my heart.
As a parent, I’ve come to appreciate both seasons, but love the Christian symbolism found in spring. In our last home, our older girls were fond of climbing a tree in our front yard and reading their history lessons and literature selections for our homeschool among the strong branches, wind, peek-a-boo sunlight, and gloriously huge maple leaves. It was an exquisite blending of both education and appreciation of our earthly home. As a family, we camp as often as we can and enjoy infusing the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains as well as hanging out in a meadow and reading, or perhaps drawing what we observe, looking up what kind of bird, flower, rock or tree we’ve found. We try to combine the more serious aspects of our days and studies into enjoying the creation that He made for us.
As Christians, we take exceptional hope in the promises offered to us in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Those promises are new every day for each one of us, as we gather insight for our lives from His Word, and receive His grace. We can compare His death to the darkness of winter, followed by His resurrection illustrated in the hope and renewal of spring.
I pray that each of you have the opportunity to play, dream and explore this spring – not just for the enrichment of educational endeavors to be found in His glorious creation, but also for the amelioration of your heart, mind and spirit expressed in the dawn of Easter morn!
Peace in Christ,
