It's time to feature another father here at HomeschoolBlogger.com.  This time, we've selected Steve Walden.    Steve puts his professional writing and editing skills to use almost daily on a variety of topics.   His entries are an excellent source for solid information about family and church issues.  They are thought provoking, informative, and encouraging.     Here's a small sampling:

Family Worship - Steve takes a look at what family worship is all about.  He talks about everything from Sunday school to youth groups and others in between. 

Perhaps the best extension of the concept of homeschooling is participating in your church's worship service as a family instead of scattering to the Sunday school rooms. Sunday school itself has an interesting history. It began as an outreach to children in the late 1700's and early 1800's to combat the hooliganism among the unchurched poor and it employed the same tactics as Vacation Bible School. Since then, it has morphed into the catch-all system to keep the churched faithful on the straight-and-narrow. It is not the best system for the same reason that secular group-schooling education is not the best system: It separates the children from their parents as the source for life instruction.  Read more here!

What is Homeschooling? - Steve answers the popular question from a father's perpsective.   

I could go on and on about the student-to-teacher ratios and allowing a child to individualize their education and proceed at their own pace, but that would be rudimentary and not really address the blessings of educating our children at home. Passionate Fathering - Steve talks about the fact that father is not a job - it's a calling and lifestyle.   

Fathering is not just a job. Jobs are something you put aside after a time, hanging it up like a coat at the end of a day. Fathering is a calling and a lifestyle. It's being available to your kids and actively pursuing a relationship with them. You remember how it was when you were first dating your wife. Your thougths were consumed by her. You couldn't wait until you saw her again. You thought of new things to do with her. It's much the same with being a dad. When you see something cool, your thought is about how you'd like your kid to see it. Read the rest here.
