When my son, Joshua died at 8.5 mos old
my sister gave me a blanket. I wrapped myself in it for months
I cried into it many nights
and I wrapped it tight around me as I imagined the Lord holding me safely and tightly in His hands.
Recently, Ive learned about Prayer Shawls and the ministries that are popping up in many churches across North America. On my own, Ive had the opportunity to make a couple of prayer shawls for friends facing loss or some sort of painful situation. I chose very simple patterns so I could crochet without having to really pay attention and focus on praying for the individual. If this is a ministry you and your children might enjoy here are some online resources for you!
The Waiting Room Ministry site (http://www.waitingroomministry.com/newSite/shawls/index.html) does a great job of explaining the opportunities of this ministry as well as provide free patterns for your convenience.
Lion Brand yarns also has some great patterns http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/khs-prayerShawl.html (youll need to register now what a pain!) and even provide free cards that can accompany your gift http://www.lionbrand.com/prayerShawlCards/
Another site is http://www.shawlministry.com/ run by Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo the founders of the Prayer Shawl ministry. They even have an email list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shawlministry/
Just last week, Lorri (aka MamaHen) shared about a prayer shawl that she created for a young lady battling cancer. Check it out at: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/MamaHen/135779
