Treasured Boxes
My husband really likes magazines, so last year for Fathers Day we decided to make colorful paper mache boxes to hold them all. They loved making them so much, that they wanted to make some boxes for themselves.
(The following directions can easily be altered to your liking.)
You need:
A cardboard box
Colorful tissue paper or newsprint
(They used an assortment of colorful tissue paper for theirs, but newsprint for the Fathers Day boxes.) *Note from Nancy... or you could even use pictures from the old magazines to decorate the boxes for each one...*
Paint or glitter paint (glue + glitter= glitter paint)
Thinned glue (1 part water, 2 parts glue)
Paint brusha chubby paint brush works best.
Directions:
- Chooses a box. (If youre going to use tissue paper and your box has writing like mine, you may want to do the first layer in white.)
- Tear pieces of paper. You dont want to tear them too big or too little.
- Decide where you are going to start placing your paper and paint the area with the thinned glue.
- Then carefully place your torn piece of paper on box (where you applied the thinned glue) as flat as possible, paint over the tissue with the glitter paint, careful not to bunch it up.
- Continue to do step 3 and 4, overlapping the tissue paper, until you cover the whole box.
- After the box is completely covered, go over the entire box with a layer of thinned glue.
- You're all done! Just let it dry completely and enjoy!
God Bless,
