Spelling Games
Would you like to put some fun into teaching your kids spelling? Here are 3 ideas to help...
1. Take turns writing out spelling words on each others backs with your finger. The person who's back in being written on says each letter aloud as he figures them out. Then when he knows enough letters to guess the word he can shout it out!
2. Take your spelling words and a timer. Decide on a set amount of time for each word. (we usually do 2 - 3 minutes depending on how may letters are in the orignal word.) See how many words you can make from that word. Example: sandwich = sand, wand, chin, and, was, saw, Dan, Chad, dash. The person who gets the most words picks the next word!
3. Get out any board game that you like to play that involves rolling a dice. When each person roles the dice they must spell a word give to them by the other person. (I would write all the words on cards and have them sitting on the game board.) If you spell the word correctly you get to move the number of spaces you rolled. If not, you miss a turn!
