-Specialty Q. How do I learn family medicine?
A. First buy a family medicine text or down load a free copy from the sources above. Seek to understand the knowledge you are acquiring. Lastly, in the rhetoric stage you will be able to use that knowledge. A few examples here.
Q. Why do I need to learn family medicine?
A. So you can avoid unprepardness. Being prepared to search for answers to illness, injury, or medical research into a condition a loved one has. Further, physiological changes are necessarily part of growing. With all this growing comes changes. Changes that sometimes bring with them medical issues. Babies grow and teeth. Children grow, and have childhood illness. Teenagers grow and acne sometimes becomes an issue. New mothers have pregnancy issues. And lastly elderly grow and have issues.
Q. Where do I learn the skills necessary?
A. Skills are first learned in theory. But, after that you want to move beyond that, and use the knowledge you have understood in family medicine in order to execute a plan of attack for a given medical issue. For example you may want to reduce a fever without the repeated use of strong antibiotics. A good botanical to consider is Goldenseal Hydrastis Canadensis. It contains the property antibiotic, as well as other properties.
Q. When do I begin to study family medicine?
A. You can integrate this into your Homeschool curriculum. Slowly introducing chronological aspects of this study. Or you may just want to stick to a systematic approach that is already outlined in the chapter. Whatever you choose, you need to bend the curriculum and make it fit your needs, and time constraints.
Q. What is the Trivium in Family Medicine Courses? A. Trivium is the Latin word, which means 3 roads to learning. These are the names of the 3 roads to learning: These are the tools for learning medicine. 1. Grammar Stage: (knowledge) What is the study of Family Medicine? 2. Logic Stage: (understanding) How do I study Family Medicine? 3. Rhetoric Stage: (wisdom) When and where do I use this knowledge of Family Medicine? Q. Why should I learn Family medicine through the "Trivium"? A. Because the Trivium model of learning is first based on scripture, secondly, medical education that is built on it facilitates purpose, direction and execution. Whereas, learning family medicine through dismembered text book approaches, creates a faulty framework for diagnosis and treatment. Deuteronomy 6:7-9 Q. How does the Trivium work when applied to the study of Family Medicine? A. The Trivium is natural and orderly. First a parent/student seeks out the knowledge stage about an illness, injury or other medical issue. Secondly, a parent/student seeks to understand the progression of that illness and its liabilities to complications. Lastly a parent/student seeks to understand the knowledge he has acquired on a particular illness and then execute the proper treatment plan. Q. How do I teach/learn Family Medicine? A. I listed some How-to here: Build a Medical Infrastructure at Home Trivium Applied to Family Medicine Join the APMformulators E-List for discussions on How tos.
You may think of these three stages in another way: Grammar stage is your Beginner stage. Here you start to become familiar with the usefulness of family medicine. Logic stage is your intermediate stage. Here you think of ways you can use this discipline to solve problems like understand the surgical procedure that caused postoperative swelling and infection. Rhetoric stage is your advanced stage. If you are careful to observe for infection signs you could catch it before it worsens and bring it to the attention of a health care giver or use a natural antibiotic to reduce swelling and fever. Summary The Objective in studying family medicine through the trivium approach is service to God, whereby our posterity learn how to distinguish between the holy and the profane in the medical arena. The present medical system does teach the Trivium. God is not referenced in its medical philosophies. Further, it is in accordance with secular claims to medical (knowledge) informatics.
