Homeschooling Is Life! ~ The Dog Ate My Blog Entry!

2:19 AM, Aug. 3, 2006

It's that time again.  The editors are "hounding" me for a blog entry.  I promised I would do this, but I am dog tired this week and my creative juices are dry as a bone.  It's the dog days of Summer around here and I have been sleeping like a log.  Not to mention, working like a dog.  Did I mention that?

You know, my owner is some crazy breed called an "unschooler."  Whatever that is!  I don't understand it.  They work so hard and are always in the middle of this project and that one.  It doesn't look like "un" much of anything.  It makes me so tired just watching them.  I try really hard to get in the way, for instance, I plop my furry body down in the middle of the desk like this:

I managed to keep the older person, the one who pets me the most, (who thinks she's the boss, Ha!)  from doing any work at her desk this week.  If I just keep laying on the mail, she will never get to it.  It worked!  See?  But then again, she spends a lot of time at her other desk, the one with the light up box on it.  She said there was a mouse around there somewhere, and I keep trying to find it but I don't see one, or even smell one.  But if one shows up, I am sure I will catch it!  I am very good at that.

But for now, I will get off the desk I guess......if I have to, and maybe take in a book or two.  I really like to read!  Just like the rest of the litter here.....they always have their furry little noses in a book.  I must be an uschooler too.....if reading is what makes you one of those!  I am a regular biblio-feline! This one is called "Look, Look, Look!" and I enjoyed it immensely.  The reading level was just purrrrrrfect for me.

I wonder what the boss is going to do when she finds out that I wrote her front porch entry today?  Will she kick me out of the house?  I prefer the house......except once in a while when I sneak out and eat grass.  I kind of think she is attached to me, and I don't know what she would do without me.  She likes me so much that she entered my photo into the county fair!  She won a second place ribbon on little old me.

Well, I better go.  This has been fun, and educational!  Who says you can't teach an old dog.....er, cat, new tricks!

Bandita

Bandita is a sneaky little critter who took over the job of front porch for the day for her devoted and busy "boss."  You can occasionally find other photos of her at www.homeschoolblogger.com/byhisgraceincolorado

Well Nancy,
It’s me again. I guess we're on the same mid-night schedule, separated by miles and miles of late-night bloggers. Once again, I happen to be up at the same time you are, and once again I happen to be the first one to comment on your blog (unless somebody beat me to it).
I was struck by the similarity of your understanding to mine of what true unschooling is all about─one project after another. I thought I was the only one who taught that way. Nance, we need to talk about this. Really, we need help – or more hours in the day!
And Nancy, the nerve…making your cat write your entry. There are some things that shouldn’t be allowed, especially when one's boss is so tired that she passes her blog responsibilities to a feline friend and throws in all kind of anthropomorphism in on top of it. Why, that’s almost like animal abuse. Give that cat a sardine.
How long did it take that cat to write a blog anyway – using the hunt and peck method I suppose? Even though it was a perrrrrrrrfectly creative blog, you really should look into letting that cat file papers or something. BTW how did my stack of papers get over to your house anyway? And as for the cat, well…mine is pure orange and named Fur Child! Well, good night dear Nancy. I'm in the middle of a project!

The funny thing is that I thought of you while I was online! Yes, it is always a late nighter or early-morn for me lately.....the days are too packed out. My doing, of course. And I would ask for 48 hours a day if that was practical. But other folks might not agree with me that it was necessary.

Wouldn't it be great if the cat could file for me? I would be SO happy! Mostly she just knocks the piles off the various desks......although maybe she is just trying to tell me to put them right in the circular file!

You know, she actually WAS reading this book! Looked so cute with her paws straight out.....but when I picked up some errant laundry that was within photo range, she moved. So we had to bribe her with some treats to start reading again. Cats are so stubborn!

Hope we get to meet you and Fur Child some day,
love,
Nancy

Even your cat is an unschooler! Wow, cats are very finicky...I'd say this is a very effective homeschooling method!

I'm still trying to get our cat to kill ants on the back stoop. Maybe she feels it is way beneath her...perhaps the story of Tweety and Sylvester would be a good read for her.

Cute photos!
