Classical Education ~ Adventures with the Trivium

Adventures with the Trivium One Silk Blouse One Car Transmission and $708 Dollars Most parents use the Trivium to teach writing, reading and arithmetic, but does applying theTrivium have monetary gain for dad and mom? Dry cleaning a silk blouse at the local dry cleaner costs $8.00, and replacing a new transmission in our car cost $ 700 . Normally, I would have just sent a soiled silk blouse off to the dry cleaner, and Pete would have paid a mechanic to replace his transmission. But, after learning of the Trivium parents begin to entertain thoughts about the unlimited utility this book possess. Parents can hone skills by using the Trivium then translating it into money. It all started because of that book. You know, the TTT (Teaching the Trivium: Christian Homeschooling in a Classical Style). It alters your mind. It’s like a drug. Maybe it’s the properties one inhales from the ink or the paper they used. I’m not sure which. One thing is certain. It plants seeds. Seeds turn into ideas. Ideas germinate, and before you know it you’re dabbling with silk blouses and a car transmission. The Silk Blouse: In a nut shell TTT provides you with a strong framework like a skeleton (approach), while you flesh out the body by locating and using all three stages. I located Trivium knowledge of silk fibers and car transmissions. For example I needed to locate grammar stage information about silk fibers, then I needed to know how soil is removed from silk fibers. To do this I enlisted the help of two leading dry cleaning trade journals. I requested a copy of their magazine. I was delighted to take notes as I read about their fiber stain removal secrets. The journal explained how Isopropyl (store bought), is useful in removing oil stains from certain types of silk fibers. I tested it first on a scrape piece of silk and it worked. I got rid of that bill. The Car Transmission: For this one Pete, went to the library and located reference books (Chilton’s Auto Repair Manual), on car transmission installation that explained in detail what, how, where, why and when. After he answered these questions using those texts he bought the transmission and replaced it. Pete got rid of that bill. The Formula? TTT doesn’t have a chapter on cleaning silk fibers and transmission repair work, although it would have been nice if these folks would have written a chapter just for me on how to get rid of stains on silk fibers and give detail instructions on how to replace a car transmission— but they didn’t. I won’t hold it against them, even though they know how important this is to me. I know, I should just let the professional dry cleaners do there job and the qualified car mechanic replace the transmission in our car. But, that’s becoming harder to do once you’ve had mind alterations done on your brain from using the Trivium. I believe in professional dry cleaners, and car mechanics, besides with all the new fabrics cleaning requirements and mechanic diagnostic tools, Pete and I will not be able to clean every type of silk fiber, and replace every transmission, but we can stretch to learn. The $700 Dollars: Pete got rid of that bill. While it’s true one can’t get rid of every bill by using the Trivium, it makes perfect sense to get rid of bills you don’t feel comfortable with. I don’t feel comfortable with any bill. Can you imagine buying a Homeschool book to teach your children, only to find out it was impregnated with monetary gain for parents too! Do you have problems that need to be solved? Do you have bills that must be paid? Then you should seriously consider taking advantage of the Trivium. Your determination will be tested for sure if you decide to use the Trivium to solve a problem. But, remember you will also reap delicious fruit and give your children mouth watering bite sizes too. About Those Folks: Pssssst... I think those Bluedorn’s are up to something. Do you get that feeling too? First, they give us this mind altering Trivium book, then their children start affecting our children’s mind with their logic and art illustrations— before you know it they’ll be a bunch of accomplished little Rembrandt children running around Homeschool blogger publishing their own books, and making more money than dad. In any case, don’t tell her this, she might expect a residual check from us every month and we’ll have to start paying bills again. If you have a Trivium Adventure Story please e-mail it to us so we can share it with others. If you don’t have a story, but would like to use the Trivium to solve a problem or learn a new subject send your inquires to: Medrsch at sbcglobal dot net.
