Personally, I love the HSB Company Blog. It's the first place I go when I log on, and after finding I go there first every day, I've just set it up as my home page. I love the variety of tips and ideas, resource reviews and recommendations, links, etc. One thing I'd really find useful is more ideas for my hands-on learner. I'm not really hands-on, and while it was easy to teach him when he was younger (every little child is hands-on), as he gets older, sometimes I don't know how to teach him things in a more interactive and tactile way. Science is pretty easy, as is math (almost anything can become manipulatives), but does anyone have ideas for things like English grammar? Sometimes I get brilliant ideas, and sometimes, we just struggle through because there are no ideas flowing.

BTW, as my kids are getting older and ready for more challenging maths, this program looks really helpful!

The company porch

My favorite part of the company porch on HSB is.. the interactive writings between bloggers and the Porch. I love giving my opinion and sometimes debating it with other bloggers. I also enjoy the tips and other informative articles. Sometimes I pass them on to our Homeschool co-op. Some ideas for the porch.....
I do see alot of children that blog too.It might be nice to have a community for them. Blogging is probably great for the writing skills. I have been thinking about letting my daughter start one also . She isnt thrilled about writing but asked for a blog too. So my idea would be some topic ideas for them to post about. Something not directly related to home life so we dont have to worry about the world wide web. Maybe a little bit of information about a topic to get them started and off they go or even a chilrens topic they could sort of debate. Then we can have them blog it or write it on paper whatever the choosing. It might be fun. I also think something to learn the other talents of the other bloggers might be nice. Some kind of talent quest. I know that is raw but a start.

I love Homeschool Blogger!

Since we are winding down our hs'ing journey, I'd like to see more from the high school perspective. (We've only got 2 years to finish and I still feel a bit like a fish out of water! LOL) And maybe some input on college life, getting into college nontraditionally, how to do transcripts when you've done things nontraditionally (more relaxed), and so forth. That'd be helpful for where I am at.

Otherwise, I think Homeschool Blogger is a fantastic community and is doing a GREAT job!

(Agreeing with the other poster - those math tutorials look extremely helpful!)

Hi;
Well... I already enjoy the contests (need to win one! lol), tips, and wonderfully enlightening links available on the HSBCompanyBlog.

I would agree I also need a bit more on high school years coming up. I know some here at HSB are savvy with excel and may have some useful forms available for tracking transcript info, etc. I will be one banging my head on my desk come next fall but am trying to prepare for it now.

I see posts and links about a few "styles" of homeschooling, it would be nice to put these under their own category headings in the sidebar. Like Classical, Charlotte Mason, Lord directed, etc so we can find the links and help more easily.

Along with the first poster, I agree that blogging has improved my own older children's quality of stories, writing, and HTML tweaking. Maybe we can nominate children's entries for some contest, writing or design? They love the encouragement too. Some have even organized and formed community blogs on their own (see http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/LOTRlounge for example, that my older kids are a part of).

Lastly, if I were new here and just clicking around I would like to see the "meat and potatoes" links (i.e. Gena's and HSLDA page, How to Homeschool, etc) at the top of the page sidebar for less stressful, more organized, clean streamlined page browsing. Not sure if any of that was helpful lol.

I've only been on the "Front Porch" a few times, but I plan on being a regular visitor now that I've taken the time to explore it better. I enjoy the contests and all the tips and reviews of the various blogs.

I think I would like to see contests just for children, either random or educational. By educational, I mean writing a report on a given topic, then either choose the best from them or randomly choose from all entries. The prizes wouldn't have to be big ticket items either, books for various age groups would be appropriate.

...in fact I love it so much it has been my homepage for quite some time now. I truly enjoy the daily themes...especially the sewing crafts (I'm a wannabe seamstress/quilter). I also enjoy the info that is imparted in order to encourage us on our HS'ing journeys. I do wish there was more info regarding older children/students.

Oh Yipee!! Another contest!!!

Homeschool Blogger has been such an 'outlet' for me. I have enjoyed writing on my blog, but I also have enjoyed reading the many blogs of others. I've received some wonderful ideas and lots of encouragement from fellow bloggers.

What I'd love to see added...

~ A place where bloggers can add their name (or a link to their blog) under various categories: Abeka, Beautiful Feet, Art, Music, City Homeschoolers, Country Homeschoolers etc. This way we can find others we can truly relate to. Almost like a blog ring for various curriculums etc.

~ My kids would love to have contests and win prizes too - not that Mommy has won anything, but at least you give us all an equal chance. = )

~ How about a place where we bloggers can add great resources/links?

~ As a homeschool support group leader, I'd love to have a section for leaders, where we can encourage one another, again, maybe under a category section.

~What about outside events...get-togethers publically for bloggers around the country and around the world? I'd love to meet some local bloggers face to face!

Thanks for this wonderful opportunity!! These contests are all lots of fun, glad I stopped by to read the HSB blog tonight.

I really like the whole site. The Front Porch is probably my favorite (go Randi) but I enjoy being able to view the wonderful information/curriculum/new items.

I, too, would be interested in more high school level information. It's fun to see what others are having success with.
