The Busy Woman ~ Time is More Precious Than Gold
1:07 AM, Sep. 22, 2006
Everyone is looking for a good deal this holiday season, or they
are shopping on the expensive side because they tell me they
are worth it. Know matter which side of this topic you're on,
don't wait until the last minute to shop. I already have my
gifts lined up because as usual, I want to enjoy the holidays
and not worry about leaving someone out this season.
(No I didn't forget anyone last year. But I heard from those
who did and rushing last minute orders was difficult.)
Do you have your list?
Have you checked it twice?
Now we all know who's naughty and nice.
But I say, "Get them something to show you care, not because
they weren't saintly during the year."
I have spoken with people who aren't happy with a sibling or friend and
think that not buying them a gift is what they'll do. Yeah, that will show
them. NOT... You buy a gift for others out of love, to show you're thinking
of them. Even when you're angry with someone, you should still
unconditionally love them. Not giving them a gift when you're giving gifts
to others is hurtful and will keep the anger or hurt brewing.
Doing something nice for others is how we show unconditional love, the love
of Christ. God doesn't take gifts from us because we misbehave. And that's
not how He wants us to be. Your gift doesn't have to be material either.
Giving time is the most precious gift anyone can give to me. (Well a big
screen TV would be nice but...) Seriously though, when my mom wants to buy
me something, I ask her to come spend time with me instead. Even when I was
so angry at her I didn't want to talk to her for a long time, I didn't treat
her poorly. I gave us time to cool off and then called her up. Taking time
with her and sharing my hurt helped the healing process.
Children especially appreciate the time you spend with them more than gifts.
My grandchildren receive tons of toys from other relatives. But when I walk
into the house, one of the kids hugs me and then runs to the couch asking me
to rub his back. The other one is only 2 and usually wants to show me a
movie or game or the tractor outside. Giving of your valuable time is more
precious than gold to the emotional side of a person.
So get your holiday shopping done early. When itนs time for the holiday
dinners, you're thoughts are all there, at the table, and not worrying about
who you forgot to buy a present for.
