Today's tip may not be brilliant or unique, but I figured if you have not heard about it, you SHOULD. I am sure many of you may have already come across this info, as I mentioned it last year on my site and it has been discussed in the media before. Even so, I think it is worth repeating.
Every homeschool mother I have ever come across has been an avid photographer... at least when the subject of photographical interest included her own children. We moms are fond of pictures, and many of us are scrapbook-a-holics. That is why I wanted to warn those of you who may not have heard the ill news about the vastly over-relied-upon CD. It seems that our worst fears (of loosing years worth of photographs and memories) may be just a moment away!
CDs are NOT a reliable way to house your data. Please click on the article below and read it to see exactly what I mean. I would hope that all of us who have been sucked in to the digital camera world would at least be armed with the truth... so that we can make ample back-ups and take as many precautions as necessary before the photos of 'little Johnny with Grandma' disappear into thin air. I already have experienced a CD 'go bad' on me. I know what it is like to not be able to open a photograph that is precious to you. I have a whole year's worth of pictures on one CD that are very hard or impossible to access (some are completely blacked out). I'm not sure if this was a 'burning' error, or a CD data loss... but it is tragic.
Please do what you need to and protect your memories! Researching and correcting this before your CDs expire or lightning wipes out your hard drives may be the most practical thing you do with your technology tools this year!
