Home Where They Belong ~ Bad Bill in Congress. Parents to Lose More Rights Over Their Children?

1:48 AM, Oct. 11, 2006

Bill in Congress to Make Public Education a Constitutional Right

As another reminder of attempts to take educational choices out of the hands of parents, legislation has been introduced in Congress proposing to amend the U.S. Constitution to make public education a “right.”
House Joint Resolution 29, introduced by U.S. Rep. Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., (D-Illinois) in 2005, is eerily similar to language in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The dangers of the UN Convention are well known. It would undermine families by granting to children a list of “rights” which include “the right to privacy,” “the right to freedom of thought and association,” and the right to “freedom of expression.” Such presumptions subvert the authority of parents to exercise important responsibilities toward their children. Similarly, H.J.R. 29 would allow the government to override a parent’s educational decision making, because it would give every child a “right” to a public school education. A parent who decided to homeschool or privately school their child could be accused of interfering with their child’s “right” to attend public school.
The proposed amendment also says that “Congress shall have power to enforce and implement this article by appropriate legislation.” This would allow Congress to completely control education and effectively override the U.S. Constitution’s 10th amendment, which reserves non-delegated powers to the states.
The proposed amendment would be very dangerous to parental rights and homeschoolers. Thankfully, it will not be acted upon under the Republican controlled House of Representatives. H.J.R. 29 has languished in the House Judiciary Committee since it was introduced and it is not expected to be heard before the 109th Congress adjourns in October. However, this proposed amendment could be reintroduced, and fast-tracked for action, if Democrats take control of the House of Representatives after the November 7 election.
HSLDA’s National Center is monitoring this legislation and will remain vigilant to ensure that a parent’s God-given right to decide what is best for their child’s education is not undermined by our nation’s laws. The National Center is not recommending any action at this time.
As another reminder of attempts to take educational choices out of the
hands of parents, legislation has been introduced in Congress
proposing to amend the U.S. Constitution to make public education a
"right."

Parents: Keep them home. Once you turn them over to the state schools, they become the business of the state. Hold them tightly to you; they're yours, gifted by God. The odds against them in the schools are too great. 85% leave the faith at the end of a public school education. It is an anti-God, anti-family environment (much like the set of an R-rated movie). Don't be foolish and think to yourself that your children would never fall away, that they are too strong to shipwreck their own faith. Yes they may. Start talking to older friends who have learned the hard way. Be wise...your heavenly Father will help you if you ask. Go back to God's way of raising children. PARENTS are whom He has called. We need to answer that call rather than rely on human wisdom (which comes from the pit of hell). Are our children not worth it?

Government's idea of making sure parents do their job may result in parents losing their children because little Johnny doesn't get crunchy peanut butter!

At the same time social workers are notoriously leaving children at risk in homes where real abuse takes place and various states are reluctant to enforce child molestation laws.

Is the world upsidedown or what?

Oct. 4, 2006 - children at home

My friend was directed to your blog recently and was depressed after reading some of your blog entries, so she asked my opinion. It seems after reading them myself that you are basically saying those who do not homeschool thier children and essentially condemning thier kids to a life of sin and ultimately to hell. This reminded me of the hateful venom being spewed by the Westborough Baptist church and it's nauseating "God hates fags" campaign. Sin is sin, true, but are you implying that homeschooling is equivalent to salvation? Or worse, that not homeschooling is SIN? I can assure you that both my friend and I LOVE our children, as much as you do, but by choice and/or circumstance do not homeschool. Does that mean you think we are in sin and throwing thier souls to satan through this choice? I beleive I am parenting my children to the very best of my ability and through God's grace, isn't that biblical? I guess ultimately the question I would ask is this, is this blog meant for public viewing or just your click of friends who all agree and have the same views? If others come across your information, do you want them to turn away thinking they are going to hell for thier parenting style? Some are weaker than others and I was heartbroken to see something as futile and inflated as this opinion crush her when she is a diligent mother of "public schooled" children. EVERYONE is subject to falling away, not only the non-homeschooled kids in America. I am not writing with a heart of anger or of impure motive, God knows, I just found that the reaction of someone I care for had proven hurtful unintentionally (I hope) and wanted to say something to this blogs author, take it how you choose. Thanks.

Anonymous, thanks for your note. If you read past blog entries here, you'll not see where I've ever condemned people who do not homeschool; that would be absurd. That said, I do condemn the SYSTEM and will continue to. It's anti-God and anti-family. I'll also say that statistics show that those taking their "education" from the state leave the faith - or at least 85% of them do. That's too high of odds to ignore! Yes, children do grow up and go to hell if they have rejected Christ. This is not mean or hateful speech. It is the truth. God's word is very clear that we are to take seriously His mandates. The bible is not just literature from which to pick and choose what sounds good (how subjective)! If you are sending your child to a public school, where the state "owns" their minds and souls for 30 hours per week, you have to know what you are getting into. Consider Title X. Do you even know about this federally funded program? It says you have no rights to your child's medical business. If your daughter wants an abortion, not only can she have one (without you) but it'll be paid for by tax dollars. Do you want to be in the dark over the one God gave you? Do you really believe that Wednesday at AWANA and Sunday at church are going to "un-do" what goes on all week long in school?

My blog sounds an alarm; you are welcome here, but I'll not stop speaking what's true.

In the words of Bradley Heath, I leave you with this. It reflects my own feelings accurately.

"I may offend readers who think sounding the alarm is worse than the fire itself. If so, then I apologize, for I have no intention of condemning parents and I realize some parents have few options. I am, however, also unwilling to falsely reassure them. Public schooling will burn your kids! It is out of concern, not condemnation, that I sound the alarm...The point is rescue, not recrimination." (Millstones & Stumbling Blocks)

And with that, I urge you: Parents, keep them home where they belong. - gena

Gena - I admire so much your willingness to sound that alarm. You make so many good points here with which I agree, but would hesitate to say in one-on-one conversation for fear of offending and cutting off lines of communication. You're a messenger kicking against the tide of what is "normal" and "accepted." Public school IS school in most people's minds. It is the standard, and I think most parents never even THINK of questioning if it is best for their children. It is what IS. That is part of the deception that was planned long ago, and I must say, it is working fabulously. Except for those pesky few who are willing to question the established ways and peel back the facade just a little and reveal that the Great Oz is not nearly as benevolent as he is in the movie.

Keep sounding the alarm, you rock at it!
P.S. - Forgive all the lame cliches and sloppy metaphors above...I'm really sleepy.

Yes, thank you for your courage in sounding the alarm!

Oct. 5, 2006 - At the risk of sounding like "Gena-lite..."

My post this morning may be of interest to you, along the lines of keeping them at home. It may be old news, but I was not aware of it before this morning. God bless you, and have a great day!

Oct. 5, 2006 - very interesting, but not surprising

We do need people like you who will sound the alarm for sure!! I must say that i do believe God puts, or should i say, keeps certain families through the generations in the 'pubic school' arena for His purposes and His glory. No power is more powerful than His. Homeschooling was an answer to prayer for me, but for many 'public school' may be their's. We cannot say what great things are happening in the lives of the lost who become found because God has His strong ones in that arena.

Oct. 5, 2006 - Untitled Comment

Rolea, thanks for your comment! I agree with you that God is everywhere and ever-powerful enough to save those whom He calls - no matter the setting. That said, I feel strongly that only adults should be in such an environment (Christian teachers and administrators - bless their brave souls). We should never send our Christian children there to be "salt and light," any more than we'd send them to a brothel to be salt and light. I have the highest respect for those teachers who brave the masses each day in the name of bringing light into the schools (as much as they are allowed to, anyway, - which is pretty much not at all). But definitely, a child....you won't see in God's word where we are told to send the immature in Christ onto the mission field. Train them at home, teach them His word, His mandates. Instruct them in logic, the sciences, history. Teach him to write and speak eloquently so that when he is ready, he can go out and fulfill the Great Commission. Not now, he's not ready. The culture will affect him, not the other way around. Statistically, this has been proven time and again. Let's take seriously the Lord's call for obedience: that we should teach our children diligently His ways, loving them, nurturing them, bringing them up as leaders for Christ. Later....they will go out. Their turn is later.

Oct. 6, 2006 - Sounding the Alarm

That's it to...sounding the alarm!!! God is calling on more to sound the alarm! To tell you the truth I haven't read your blog in quite along time. I made sure to bookmark it this time! In my spirit I heard a siren going off just like in the mid-1800's when the Industrial Revolution began. The new factories needed laborers and the siren call went out for men to leave their homes and be paid a salary (something new for most men). Around this same time, another movement was taking shape: The Common (Public) School Movement. So, as dads were leaving home with a promise of employement, children were also leaving home with a promise of being made employable for the next generation. Within a very short period of time, the family unit that had been tightly held together for generations, became a set of individuals going their separate ways. I never read your blog in May yet back in May God called me to sound the alarm. I felt a siren rise up in my spirit. There's a siren going out over the land again but this time it's not from man it's from God Almighty! We best take heed! God said to me, "Send out a call to homeschool! " with that I procrastinated due to fear and what have you...but now I am going to start in a couple of weeks a "Considering Homeschool" Ministry --http://www.consideringhomeschooling.org/ at my church. I'm really nervous though. My Pastor doesn't want people to think our church is against the public school but I know I must fear God not man and follow the leading of the Spirit so I'm feeling like Esther right now. Please keep me in prayer. You'll find more about the 1800's in the 1st link!
God reassured me that the thing that happened with Arnold Schr (sp) I'm not even going to try to spell his name LOL that one law he passed was a sign. He told me watch what unfolds in this year. Now look what has been happening within the schools in the last few weeks since he signed that bill. The boat is sinking! I fear for the children! It breaks my heart!

The real problem with public schools is that they exist in the first place. They are an ungodly, unlawful, collectivist institution. The many evils now spewing out of them derive from the curse of God inflicted on all institutions that defy Him. He has commanded parents to educate their children in terms of His law; that cannot be done in a public school. If we want our children to fear Him, to grow into diligent workers for His kingdom, we cannot afford to train them in an institution which has as its fundamental presupposition that I am entitled to as much money as I can vote out of my neighbor's pocket.

Prayer doesn't belong in a public school (Proverbs 28:9). Your money doesn't belong in a public school. Most of all, your children don't belong in a public school. Institutions premised on sin must not be redeemed, but abandoned. We cannot send young maidens into brothels in the interests of "equal time for chastity." As the light of the world, we must set the standard. Our Lord never called His people to help build the tower of Babel in the hope of getting a Bible study in the basement. He commanded us to build our own city on a hill.
