Verses for the Week
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Col. 4:6
If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth. Prov. 30:32
Thought for the Week
I have noticed that the more tired I am, the more impatient and ungracious my speech is toward my family. Its like I am too tired to fight the good fight of putting the flesh to death, and have just allowed the old man to rule once again. Evil reigns when I am on the throne. It takes the strength of the Lord to continue to fight against my flesh and allow His Spirit to control me. If you have found yourself disengaged from this spiritual battle of the tongue, and have thought only of lifting up yourself or thought evil of another, there is a remedy lay your hand upon your mouth. For me, this gives me a moment to change the harsh words into ones full of grace for the hearer. Not only will this diffuse potential hurt and anger on everyones part, it will be upholding Christs reputation and becoming like Him as when He stood before His accusers, He opened not His mouth. ~dlw
