Home Where They Belong ~ The Most Dangerous Place in America
2:51 AM, Oct. 18, 2006
Should teachers be trained to deal with "terrorism in the classroom?" With the recent school shootings, violence from students to other students, and escalating anger coming (and directed to) from students and teachers alike (recently a teacher was in trouble for biting a student - another teacher charged for stapling a child's head), do teachers need to pack guns? Check out Utah this weekend. Public schools are not the safest place physically, and certainly not spiritually. Parents, keep them home where they belong. The odds are too high, time is only so short. Let's make it count by investing in our children rather than turning them over to a godless system to be made thinkers and workers for the state. Safety first.

You all may think I am crazy but I think that everyone should carry a gun. Then crime would go down and then maybe the government would serve us instead of us serving the government.
That is very scary!! I have a friend who wishes her mom would homeschool her. I was reading an article this morning about how a Texas school district is training everyone, students and teachers, to attack if a gunman comes into their school/classroom. Absolute craziness!
One of the school districts here in Texas was on the news the other night. The Burleson ISD is training the students to fight back if anyone comes into their class with a gun. The students are all supposed to stand up and start throwing the heaviest things they can find at their attacker. Then rush him. The parents are worried about the school teaching violence, yet they still send them every day.
Maybe we should all stop going into banks - after all they get robbed, right? And how about airports? I heard some planes were once used as weapons... While we're at it, we'd better stay away from the playground, too - just yesterday, another kid pushed my son down. Pretty soon, you'll be holed up at home, looking distrustfully at anyone who ventures near. Now, THAT's enjoying life.
Anony, how alarmist can I get? You are correct: I am sounding an alarm. Public schools are no place for Christian kids. When I go into a bank, I take my children with me. When I go into church, or into a library, I take my children with me. As I live out my life, I take my children with me, always dialoguing, always teaching. They're mine, gifted by God, to raise up in the admonition of the Lord. I would no sooner drop my kids off all day at a public school than I would drop them off all day at the local strip joint. In some schools, the two are almost synonymous. Focus, Anony. Don't broadbrush. Just because I take seriously my children's education and spiritual/mental well-being, does not mean we "hole up" in our homes. In fact, 85% of their homeschooling happens apart from our home, did you know that? We're so busy living and learning life, school happens. Check out the stats, Anony - you can't deny the research. Homeschooled kids do better (up to 30 point higher) on their SATs then their public school counterparts. So....they're doing better academically, better as far as community leadership (ask yourself why public civil offices are welcoming homeschooled teens into volunteer programs. Ask yourself, too, why universities such as Stanford in Calif are actively recruiting homeschool grads at conferences where homeschoolers congregate). The stats don't lie. The outcome doesn't pretend. Keep them home where they belong (what is "home", Anony? Home is family). Their family is where they belong.
Let's see, you should ask this family http://www.theslant.net/storylight.php?story_id=3479&date=20040128
Kim, stop embarrassing yourself, LOL. CBS caught a clue and dropped the anti-homeschool "news" segments because they found they fared badly by doing so. You are bringing up some random wacky homeschooling-gone-bad examples. Let's get serious - any "movement" is going to have its nutheads. But please, let's compare the public school violence/murders/abuse with homeschooling's. No contest, Kim. So your example is moot. Kim, bring yours home where they belong.
How come negative commenters are never brave enough to leave a name???? Anonymous's make me mad when they do that....it is cowardly.
As you noted, "any "movement" is going to have its nutheads." So how can you post random stories about random nutjobs wreaking havoc in schools, and point to them as definitive reasons why we shouldn't venture into public schools? Bad stuff happens EVERYWHERE. I agree, public schools can be a cesspool if parents don't know what children are up to and with whom they're spending their time, just as the *family living room* could if the parents aren't involved in their children's lives. I am highly active in my sons' classes - I know their teachers, I know their friends, I know which assignments are giving them trouble, and I know how they spend their time. My children are doing well in public school. Blossoming, even. So, no, the idea that they need to be kept at home in order to be protected (sheltered) or to become functioning members of society is ludicrous.
P.S. My name is Leigh
Leigh, thanks for posting your name. :-)
