Operation CHRISTmas Child Christmas Shoeboxes for Children Abroad
Looking for an easy but worthwhile ministry for your children for Christmas. Consider Operation Christmas Child a ministry of Samaritan's Purse. This is Franklin Graham's (Billy Graham's son) ministry. Your children can pick out gifts (the Dollar Store is a great place to get things) for the shoe box. Choose a box for a girl or a boy and an age group. For guidelines see their website HERE
Be Blessed By Sharing Jesus with a needy child this Christmas. But hurry, time is running out. And don't forget to include a bible!
I have been involved with OCC... I raised about $100-200 when I was 10 for it. I think it is a wonderful outreach and has blessed many children. We were even given prayer journals that had what country we were sending the shoeboxes too! We also did a OCC play and it was so neat!

Our MOPS group participates in OCC every year. I do two boxes for boys (to represent my two boys) and one box for a girl (for the girl I will never have). The dollar stores and Target dollar spot are great for getting items. I

We have our shoeboxes to fill too. One year my kids got a letter back from a Church teacher in Africa. She wrote that there recently was a large fire that burned alot of the children's homes and belongings and they had to divide the contents of the shoeboxes so many more children would get a few items. We always try to overpack just in case! Also she said we were the only ones that had a picture and address included or she would have thanked everyone... :)
This is an awesome program. I have been running it for my church for many years. It is a great way to get your children involved in outreach.
Just one caveat - you may not want to put a Bible in your box. Two reasons: some countries don't allow Bibles, so the packers will have to take it out; and, many of the countries they send the boxes to are not English speaking countries.
They do put a pamphlet in every box, in the host country language, about Jesus and how to be saved.
Hey!
Thanks so much for that tip. I looked over the website and couldn't find any place that said No Bibles. We include a picture book of Jesus sometimes instead just for that purpose. Thanks for the update!!
