Gena is scheduled to speak at several different conferences on how to write for magazines. The first step of contacting a magazine is with a query letter. Gena has a sample letter over on her blog that she needs a little help with. All I have to say is, "Thank goodness it isn't mine." My first query letter was not anywhere near as bad as the one Gena shares with you, but trust me, it was bad enough. Still, I must have been given an E for effort because the magazine did buy my article.
So what's the contest? All you have to do is rewrite the query letter on Gena's blog and tell her what is wrong with the original. What do you win? A $50 gift certificate to be spent at The Schoolhouse Store! Wahoo, that's enough to buy
Homeschoolopoly and then some! Don't forget, you'll get to spend the whole $50 on products, not a penny for shipping because there is NO SHIPPING COSTS.
Who knows, maybe it will help you to realize that you can sell your writing.
