Verse of the Week
Want a verse to memorize with your
children and recite or read every
Thanksgiving holiday? Here it is:
Psalm 100 "A Psalm of Thanksgiving.
Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you
lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; come
before His presence with singing. Know
that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has
made us, and not we ourselves; we are His
people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
and into His courts with praise. Be
thankful to Him, and bless His name. For
the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting,
and His truth endures to all generations."
Thought for the Week
Are you ever irritable at
Thanksgiving because of all the serving
you have to do? I sometimes am especially
when I am cleaning and cooking and
inviting friends and family over. It can
become a stressful time.
I know in my heart that my service to the
Lord is to serve my family first and
foremost, and yet when they “get in the
way” of other things that I desire to
accomplish, I become frustrated. I
sometimes forget, especially at stressful
times, that my family is my ministry. But
as soon as I remember that it is the Lord
Christ I am serving by serving them, the
gladness in my heart is able to return.
The verses above say to serve the Lord
with gladness. If we are merely serving
people, we will be disappointed,
especially if we are looking to them to
provide thanks to us for all of our hard
work. This Thanksgiving, rather than
looking for thanks from others, let's enter
His gates with thanksgiving for all of His
service towards us!
And, if we are serving everyone in the
name of the Lord, it should be with a
heart filled with gladness. This will not
only bless them, but bless the Lord as well.
Look at that verse in the Psalm again: we
are to "serve the Lord with gladness" -
that is the key! That is how we can come
into His presence singing - even in the
midst of a rush of busyness and service!
The verse also says, “Know that the Lord
He is God!” If we really believe that we
are laying our requests down before the
living God, we would believe that He is
able to take our cares and take care of us.
As we serve Him with gladness, and come
before Him with singing, we somehow
realize that He is God and it is He
who has made us and not we ourselves.
Rather than laying our requests before
Him in despair, or moaning about all of
the serving we will be doing this
Thanksgiving, we can come before Him
with a song in our heart and with
thanksgiving and praise for those He has
given us to serve and especially for Who
He Is ~
Join me in serving Him with gladness this Thanksgiving holiday.
