A few tips for taking really great photographs
1. Get down on their level.
Try some shots at the level of your subject such as in this photo here. If you have a toddler get on your knees, if you have an infant or a child beginning to scoot on their tummy get down on your tummy to take pictures. Being at the same level as your subject helps the photograph tell a different story, one from your subject's perspective.
2. Use a plain background Here's a picture I took when someone was having a "favorite sandals" contest. Notice how the plain background makes my feet show up even more! A cluttered background distracts from the subject.
3. Use a flash outdoors A flash outdoors fills the photograph's dark or shadowed spots. Without one the photograph will sometimes have areas that appear dark (in the photo below notice how much darker the top part of the photo is). Use a fill flash especially when the sun is directly overhead to lighten shadows under nose and eyes.
