Many people do "toy rotations" to keep a sense of newness and "tame the chaos". It is a great idea! For our family we do some rotations of toys that are out on shelves accessible to the children, but there are also many toys that are only brought down at parental discretion.
Many sets of toys are stored "up-up and away" here, and I will take down one tote at a time for an afternoon of play.

My husband, Ken, put his wood working skills to use in making our shelves, but metal brackets and painted plywood are quick and easy. (That's how my dad did them when I was a girl!) The tops of tall bookcases work too.
If find yourself wondering where you'll put additional toys after the Christmas presents are unwrapped, or are tired of stepping on army-men and tinker-toys, containerize and put them "up-up and away".
