Field trip bags.
Are you always forgetting that camera or can't find that pencil? As you head out on your next trip try creating a field trip bag. There are many things you may want to take as you go out but seem to always let behind. Your bag could be a canvas bag or as simple as a ziplock bag( although larger items won't fit). Somethings you might want to have inside might be wipes, Band-Aids, deposable camera, paper, pencils , clipboards( and a side tip would be to attach you pencil to the clipboard with string.), snacks, passports(See idea below), and extra cash. If you are well organized you might have a study guide to go along with the trip or some kind of checklist of facts to look for. Next time as you are running out the door and dont have to much time to prepare, grab your field trip bag that you prestocked for the road. We keep ours right by the kitchen door. As soon as we get home we restock .

Long Trips
If you are going on a long trip ,even this holiday as simple as visiting family, then my favorite 5 might help keep them busy.
1. Headphones and book on tape.
2.Classical music or music from other counties.
3.Travel Bingo
4.Magnet board You can make these on the back of a cookie sheet. Use a permanent marker and you can create games on the board and use wipe off markers to play.
You can also make a scene and add animal magnets or just the old abcs. They can make their own game too with the marker and magnets.
5. My girls love to bring their plasic canvas or sewing along.

Another great idea .....Field trip passports
Field trip passports are kept as a keepsake for your children to have and hold . They are a reminder of the year and all your travels. Before you head out on your field trip you can create your passport. Take some paper fold it in half and then cut along the fold. Stack as many pages as you think you will need together and fold again and staple. You will then create a front to your passport. You dont want to use a photo or a name because of safety reasons unless you plan on leaving the passports at home. I have my kids take them with us. If you are leaving them at home then in the inside you can include a picture and brief description of your child. You can also include your phone number or address. Then for each place you visit you can create stickers of that place to be put in the passport. I use mailing labels and clip art to create the stickers. We also later add our favorite photo of the event. Each time you visit somewhere you can add to your passport. By the end of the year you will have created a neat keepsake of all the places you have traveled that year. You can also get a plastic pocket to keep it in and a clip and band to wear it around your necks. You could also us a pocket photo album the same way.
