Craft Corner ~ Easy Ornaments for Kids, and Mom Too!
1:33 AM, Dec. 11, 2006
Here is the ornament entry. These are very easy and require minimal supplies and prep work. Not only that, they turn our really nice, and make great gifts to grandparents. What grandparent doesn't love a homemade gift from Junior?
Craft Foam:
You may want to have ready patterns of shapes, like bells, Christmas trees, stockings, angels, candy canes and anything else you can think of. I usually get these ready in advance on a heavy cardstock paper. That way, they are easy to trace and last longer. Your will need different colors of craft foam to trace these patterns on and cut out. Using craft glue, pom poms, sequence, glitter glue, and anything else you might have, your child can decorate their cut outs. Punch a hole at top, tie ribbon on and hang on tree.
Felt:
Again, using patterns, you can cut felt shapes and decorate them. Use a big yarn needle for sewing the felt together in a blanket stick or whip stitch around the edge. Decorate with pom poms and glue sequence on. (For these, I actually used a small hole punch and punched holes where I sewed the two pieces together, but I think using a heavy needle would work fine too.)
Craft Sticks:
I use the big tongue depresser size sticks for these, not the popcicle size. I prepainted these so they were ready. My girls made these a few years ago, so you can see they are easy to make and turn out very cute. Our twigs have since fallen off, but we collected some from the backyard to make the arms on our skinny snowmen people. Credit for this craft goes to Family Fun.
Have fun making ornaments!
