Handwriting tips

Handwriting is personal and is different for each individual.
No two people have the same handwriting. For hundreds of years signatures have been considered legally binding. A persons signature and handwriting is a persons tradmark. What will your childs trademark look like?
I believe that handwriting is important. It is important that someone be able to read what your child is writing. We only work on handwriting about 10 mins. per day. This is all it takes to eventually have good handwriting. At this time we are using the program Handwriting without tears.I would highly recommend this program . (www.hwtears.com) If you do not have anything for handwriting you can still work on some basic skills with these

Tons of handwriting information.
There are three main things to work on when learning to write. First you want to work on letter formation, then uniform letter style, and last uniform slant. You also want to teach the letter sounds as you go.
A tip for younger children is have them write with a larger too. Such as a paintbrush or marker. My favorite is the marker animals. They are short with a little animal on the top. This forces them to practice their their hand grip . With the animal in the palm of their hand.
Handwriting Notebook
I have created a handwriting notebook for each of my children.
They have a 3 ring binder with a handwriting stip attached to the front of their notebooks. One is in cursive and the other is working on print. So they have different strips on their books. This way when they are working on their handwriting they can see how the writing goes. It is right in front of them. You can create your own stip simply by downloading the font you want from the link above. Type all the letters Aa, Bb ect and then attach to the front of you notebook using clear contact paper that you can buy at walmart. Used for covering the inside of Kitchen cabinets. It can be used to protect the paper just like laminating.
Writing b and d
Hold you hands up and make the OK sign with each letter- the left forms the b and the right hand forms the d. If you put them together they make a bed.
Write the the letter b on the childs left shoe and the letter d on the right shoe. The letters face each other when they shoes are on the correct feet.
Happy Handwriting.
