Fun recipes that the children can use and play with.

Did you run out of play dough today or paste? Todays tip is to make some of your own . These also would make great gifts if you bought decorative containers to put them in or holiday baggies.
Flour paste
1/2 cup flour
2/3 cup water
Oil of peppermint or oil of wintergreen as a preservative.
Mix flour and water. Stir until paste is creamy consistancy. Add a few drops of oil
This will make about 1/2 pint
Self- hardening Salt dough(great for christmas ornaments)
1 1/2 cup salt
4 cups flour
1 1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon alum (perservative if clay is not baked)
1. Mix dry ingredients together in plastic bowl. Then add water gradually
2. When dough forms balls around the spoon knead the dough well, adding water if crumbly.
3. This clay can also be baked. Set oven to 300 degrees and bake small shapes for 30-40 mins or until hard.
Play dough
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon of food coloring (you may also add spice for scent )
2 cups of water
1. Mix ingredients in saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly till dough leaves the sides of the pan.
2. Remove from pan and when cool to the touch knead for a few minutes.
Finger paint
Add a sprinkling of powdered soap flakes to recipe to help paint glide over the paper and to make it clean up easier.
1. Mix 2 parts of liquid laundry startch with 1 part powdered tempra paint or a few drops of food coloring
Or
2 Mix flour and water into paste add food coloring or tempera paint on the paper as you paint.
Peanutbutter playdough edible
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
1 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup honey
Mix , play and eat
Slime
Note: This recipe is extremely messy. Be careful around furniture and carpets!
Equal amounts of white glue and liquid laundry starch ( it's by the laundry products in the store). Start with about 1/2 cup of each.
How To Make It
Measure equal amounts of the glue and liquid starch, about 1/2 cup to start, into a bowl. Stir thoroughly. Let rest 5 minutes.
Knead it with your hands, until it comes together. Just when you think it is ruined, it suddenly turns into a wonderful long-stranded glob!
