Tip of the Day ~ Place your Children's Curriculum Needs into God's Hands!

Begin the New Year right by placing your children’s curriculum needs for the upcoming school year into God’s hands, trusting Him to guide your choices. Doing this will save you time and money, and prevent experimentation with curriculum that will not best suit your children’s needs.

God created a unique purpose for each of our children before He placed them in our wombs. As parents, it is our responsibility to train them in the way they should go. That means inquiring from Him about the materials we teach our children so they can best fit the position God designed for them to fill.

I have found that resources, which were given to me, were the ones best suited for my children’s needs. This discovery led me to see that when we align ourselves with God’s will, He will provide our needs. I admit I do not rely on Him to provide all my children’s curriculum, because I am overly fond of buying books – to the point that we have them laying everywhere.

My sister has commented to me about the success of a mutual friend in being able to choose curriculum she has been happy with for an entire year. Our friend, Diane, says she begins praying in January about her curriculum needs, trusting in God to lead her to the right stuff. She says He always does! She admitted she really has to listen to God, letting Him lead her and work it all out, or she finds herself wasting time, energy, and money. Through this, she has found that God truly cares about every “little” thing.

Another tip Diane recommended is to seek God’s will concerning each child’s curriculum, keeping in mind that what worked for the older may not be God’s choice for the younger child(ren). Once she said it, I realized how true that was in my family. I have three sons, and each one is so different from the others.

We must be willing to let go of our own agendas for our children’s education and truly seek God’s will for their lives. His ways are higher than ours!

I feel so blessed because when the Lord laid home schooling on my heart He also showed me the curriculum to use. What I have found after the first two quarters of our school year is, that I had to go back to Him and ask for His guidance in using the curriculum in the most effective way for our son. I began to feel that I was doing things my way and I want to do things His way. I want to teach my children His ways. Monday, our 3 year old daughter will be joining us and starting her school lessons. Of course, they will be pre-school level. I have been working with her for a year now but it's just been here and there. Now I feel that after watching her brother she desires to be a part of what we do and so we will begin having structured time with her as well. I am excited........and will be posting my lessons on my blog this weekend. Thank you for writing the Tip of the Day. Each entry has been a blessing to me.

Curriculum choices

This past year I have learned a lot about curriculum choices. I have always striven to have the best that I know of for my children--using the companies that have been around for a long time, and have the books that are well-known to be good. What I am discovering is that what I think is a great choice, may not always work out to be the best one for my daughter. I have tried to make her fit the curriculum that I have chosen, and it isn't working.

Last summer we made some changes--adding something new. It has worked. This fall I realized that a choice that we have used from the beginning is no longer meeting my daughter's needs. We are now making changes in that area, and I hope that they will also work out for her.

The Lord has blessed us in our endeavours, and I am so glad that I am in a position to teach my children at home. I trust that He will continue to direct our paths, as He has promised.
