It is winter and in most of the country the ground is covered in snow. Here in the Northwest (near the coast) it is just wet. Cold and wet. So in our home, we need the appearance of snow and nothing works like these giant snowflakes. I used 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper. Experiment with lots of sizes and colors and textures of paper. These are just beautiful and so easy. Make sure you try this, and let me know how it goes.

First you take a piece of paper and cut it into a square and fold it in half like this triangle. Starting at the folded side, cut strips up towards the point but not all the way up. Do this on each side of the triangle like the picture below. You will want the same number of cuts on each side. You can experiment with how many cuts to do, but 4 works really well.

Then open your triangle up and curl the center square in and tape in the center. Then turn the paper over and curl the next pieces toward the center and tape. Turn paper over and do the same thing. Keep turning and taping until all the pieces are taped.

Then when you are finished you will have one star point. You will make 6 of these points to get your snowflake. When you have a six of these points take the points and put together and staple them in the center. This will give you your star shape. Then you will need to tape the center of the sides together so it stays as one piece instead of six floppy pieces. I hope you have fun with this easy craft. It you have any questions please comment.

6 points?
I love this craft, but I am stuck on how to make the 6 points of the star. I have the snowflake made up to that point, but am unsure how to fold the paper to make the 6 points. I am a visual person so it is kind of hard for me to do if I can not visualize it.

that is so cute I'm going to make that. We usually do regular snip flakes but these are just fab!

6 Points
Heatherd76 - I ran into the same problem but finally figured it out when re-reading the directions a little more closely. What you ended up with was just one of the 6 points. You will need to repeat the whole process 5 more times (5 more sheets of paper) for a total of 6 times. Then secure all 6 together to make 1 huge snowflake. I'm not sure yet about securing all 6 points together. I haven't gotten that far yet. I suppose tape will do!
