What's my favorite math activity?
I would have to say letting the kids play
hide and seek!
Yup! Hide and seek!
It's such an easy way to learn how to count!
My second favorite is letting them play cards.
They learn greater than and less than,
along with adding!
Great fun; great learning!

Math activity.. has got to be cooking!! I love to be in the kitchen with my girls.. changing recipes around, doubling recipes and trying to figure out how much 7/8 is .. there are no measuring cups for that.LOL.

I also have found Time4learning.com. It's been a great help for my daughter who struggles in Math.

Thanks so much for offering this contest.

My favorite math activity is playing dominoes-- either an actual game or just putting the dominoes out one by one and having the kids see how well they know their times/addition tables!

The Price Is Right!

My all-time favorite math activity (and my kids' as well) is playing my own homemade versions of games from the TV game show The Price Is Right. My kids learn estimating, the value of things, adding, subtracting, and so much more.

When the kids were little I used to love to use the little counting bears!! :0) I also used to love to use the little frogs that also had a book to use with them. :0) Another tried and true math activity is regular playing cards. There are so many games that can be played with the cards and the kids really do not realize they are learning.

Our favorite math activities would be grocery shopping. My kids love to round up or down, so they can estimate the total grocery bill. They each make their predictions, and anxiously wait for the cashier to ring it all up. The child who comes the closest (without going over) wins.

One of our favorite math activites, is singing the math facts along with the math-u-see CD. Sometimes I even do a little dance for the kids while we are singing them..hehe! They love that! We also have fun dumping out the change jar, and counting the change by 5's, 10's, 25's and 1's. While we do use Saxon math books, when it gets boring we like to do our lessons "picnic" style...that means scattered on the living room floor in front of the heater! Doing math this way, is way more fun then how we did it in public school growing up.

My favorite math manipulative is pattern blocks. I love the many things they are able to do with them. I like to see them use their imagination to create different geometric patterns.

We really like the Math Wrap-Ups. They're fun to use in the car, and can be passed back and forth between the children.

My 1st grade daughter's favorite math "manipulative" is a real Sanyo electronic cash register that grandpa gave her for Christmas. We even filled it with real money. We are now in the process of setting up a "store" in the basement for friends and relatives to make puchases whenever they are here for a visit.
My daughter has quickly taken on the entrepreneur attitude - her "store" now includes a few items up for a true sale. She made several picture books out of cardstock - all her own original artwork! Some are $2 and some are $3. She has sold 3 books so far! She's going to have to balance her register soon!

Cusinaire Rods with a number line taped to the desk. Makes even multiplication and division make sense to my DD5.

I think my favorite math manipulative would have to be plain old legos- especially the little square bricks. We stack them and compare tower sizes, we build (add) and knock down (subtract), we group and count by 2's, 3's, 4's, and 5's and if we can round up enough of the little buggers we'll even count by 10's...
I've got another little one coming up on kindergarten age and two more after her, we'll be stacking lots of legos over the next couple of years!

Hmmm! That's a tough-y!

Here's some of my favorite math activities and manipulatives:

~cooking and baking with mom (me!) :-)
~watching CyberChase on PBS Kids
~playing hopscotch
~grocery shopping with cash (and not a debit card)
~singing/chanting "One Two, Buckle My Shoe" and other math-type "ditties"

I could go on and on! :-)
