Consider teaching these 3 R’s when homeschooling your children:  responsibility, relationships and rejoicing.

Responsibility

Teach your children that they have a responsibility to their families, church, community, and nation.  Show them at an early age how to be responsible by instilling in them strong core values, such as diligence, duty, reverence, and respect.  Make them accountable for their actions so they can learn to be responsible.  Teach them how to partner with one another.  Give them tasks that require steps in carrying out processes so they can learn how to plan ahead and see each step achieved toward the fulfillment of their goals.

Relationships

Teach your little ones how to have a relationship with God, parents, siblings, grandparents, church, missions, community and the poor.  While they are young, teach them to regard other children of the opposite sex like siblings or cousins, people whom they can regard as friends without being teased.  Teach them to respect adults and those in authority over them.  Teach them to honor their parents, that their lives may be long.

Rejoicing

Teach your children that one of the “fruit of the Spirit is . . . joy” (Galatians 5:22).  Demonstrate to them how to have joy in the midst of trials, so they can always see their cup is half full instead of being half empty.  Let them see that whatever the Lord our God has given us, we will possess (See Judges 11:24).  Teach them to rejoice in God and His creation, Truth, miracles, fiery trials and victories.  Show them examples like Corrie ten Boom, who praised the Lord in a concentration camp for fleas because she could keep her Bible.  We enter His courts with praise and His gates with thanksgiving (See Psalm 100:4).  We can instill in our children while they are still young how to have thankful hearts in all situations.   Rejoice in the Lord always and again, I say rejoice!
