THE CONTINUING COLLAPSE
AN ADDENDUM
Among other things, Reg Weaver, President of the NEA, is offering these Christians associate membership in the NEA and possible political support for members of these churches in school board races. In return, Weaver is asking to have NEA members placed on boards of deacons and elders and to have the churches lobby Congress and other legislatures with the NEA to get more money and power.
This could easily begin to spread across the liberal and "moderate" church landscape. If you consider the public policy positions the NEA has taken, the combination of churches and the NEA is both hilarious and alarming.
That having been said, however, most of our churches are already de facto affiliates of the NEA through the structure of their youth ministries and the tacit, and often overt, support pastors give to their church members' public school habit.
Weaver clearly understands that vast sums of money and cultural dominance are at stake in the education wars. We must confront parents and pastors with the facts and demand responses that go beyond the "our children are salt and light" and "our schools are different" cliches BECAUSE
FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.
God's peace be with you, Bruce
