Fight the Flu
In Minnesota, 3 children have died from the flu in the past two weeks, and 13 nationwide have fallen victim. This years flu has targeted a different group, as not all of these children were the high risk ones, many of them were perfectly healthy children… which has caused our governor to order an emergency batch of the flu vaccine to our state.
I know many home school families are not fond of vaccines, flu shots, etc.
I thought I would spend the week posting tips on how to fight the flu - vaccine free.
Today’s Tip: Don’t Shake, it is ok…
Our pastor invites the congregation to turn and greet others in church, it is one of my favorite moments of the morning… fellowshipping and meeting others… only….today I did not extend my hand… I know…sounds kind of rude, huh?
Well… at first, others were taken aback… when I told them… “sorry, it is flu season, I am not shaking today” and then I added … “ I’m hugging!!”
Which was better!! I was able to whisper a blessing in their ear!!
Not every situation will allow to trade a handshake for a hug, but a simple explanation is ok. I found that others were thankful for my sensitivity, and a few were even relieved, as they themselves, were trying to figure a way out of the shake… : )
If you MUST shake… then by all means, do not touch your face afterwards until you are able to wash your hands. The virus can live for a long time afterwards and it loves to find it’s way into mucus membranes, like those in your mouth, eyes and nose…
Stay Healthy!!
