I tend to be an all or nothing person, and love to zero in on a project without interruption. Realistically though, such chunks of time are hard to carve out amid my other responsibilities in this "season".
Due to necessity I’ve been training myself to break things down into bite sized bits that can be done in an afternoon, an hour, or even in little 15 minute bursts. For some people, this comes naturally, for me, however doing "part" of a job at a time is torture. I’m too neurotic to endure leaving the job partially done. So, what’s a busy mom to do? I simply redefine what a "job" consists of. Instead of thinking of the big task of "spring cleaning" the job becomes, "clean the light fixtures".
If I do one or two of these sub-projects each week, in a month the bigger project will be done! Each smaller job still has that sense of closure and fulfillment. When practical, I still prefer to focus on one project at a time, but often that isn’t feasible. In those cases, the secret, for me, is in redefining the projects and breaking them down into realistic pieces.
