Are you ready for Spring? I am. I received flowers for Valentine's day and I realized how a bunch of flowers on my table really makes the home feel bright and cheerful. I saw this craft in the
Family Fun magazine and thought I would share it. We actually have not done this yet but I plan to because I know my kids will really think this is neat. Spring starts March 20th, so why not get a head start on it and incorporate a little science to go along with it.
For this craft you need white flowers. The best variety are roses, daisies and carnations. Divide a bouquet up and put several flowers in a vase with colored water. Here is the water solution: 20 drops of food coloring for every 1/2 cup of water. make sure to trim the ends of the flowers so they are nice and fresh for soaking up that colored water. In less than 24 hours you will see how your flowers will change to the color you put in the water.
Make sure to check out
Enchanted Learning for some great plant worksheets to see how this happens. Enchanted Learning is a membership site but the small fee for a year is more than worth all the available printouts that you have access to.
Let us know how it goes!
