When eBay prohibited the sale of Teachers Editions, they actually paved the way for someone to come in and establish a homeschool auction site. In fact, when the news about eBay's ban on Teacher's Editions became public, people actually started contacting us - wanting us to cover the story in the magazine or to spearhead a grassroots effort through HomeschoolBlogger to appeal to eBay to reverse their decision. Many knew that TOS actually got its start as a newsletter for our eBay customers when we were selling homeschool curriculum there years ago and they knew that we realized the importance of having a place for homeschoolers to buy and sell curriculum that way.
It was obvious that eBay's decision had already been made, so instead of spending a lot of effort trying to change their mind, we began to consider what other options were available to homeschoolers. At the time there weren't many (just a few smaller sites) and we began researching what it would take to create a homeschool auction site that could actually stand toe-to-toe with eBay. A place where homeschoolers could earn some extra money selling curriculum and household items. A place where homeschoolers could find both new and used curriculum at great prices. A place that would give others the opportunity to start a home business for their family like eBay did for us years ago.
So after some prayer we bought the domain www.HomeschoolBuy.com and a few variations. We found a homeschool dad and experienced webmaster to begin setting up the site. We did comparisons with other niche auction sites. And we hired an attorney to make sure that we had airtight legal agreements in place to protect ourselves, our buyers, and sellers. We talked about it on our HomeschoolBlogger site and got feedback there. We hired a graphic designer to design some buttons and banners. And at the end of October 2006, HomeschoolBuy was officially launched.
Now, that we've gotten HomeschoolBuy off to a good start though, we're looking for someone who would like to buy the site and grow it to its full potential. We have our hands full with the magazine and blog sites and thought this could be a wonderful opportunity for some other family to develop a homebased business.
Are you interested?
Contact us and we can give you all the details. We want HomeschoolBuy to succeed and would be willing to advertise and promote it for the new owners with over $10,000 worth of advertising in the magazine and on our websites.
The Spring curriculum buying season is here. Now is the time for someone to really take HomeschoolBuy to the next level. Homeschoolers are looking to sell their used curriculum to have money for next year's purchases. HomeschoolBuy is the perfect place for that.
If you've ever wanted to own your own business or you're looking for a way to have a greater voice in the homeschool community, this may be the perfect opportunity for you. We'd love to talk to you about it.
Sincerely,
Paul and Gena Suarez, Publishers
