Home Where They Belong ~ Homeschool Restrictions or Creation Restrictions?

2:41 AM, May. 30, 2007

With homeschooling now becoming a real choice for more and more parents, those who are against homeschooling are hailing for more regulation and voicing their worries for poor unsocialized children who can't develop a mind of their own.  This thread has brought an onslaught of comments from homeschool parents hoping to educate the author about the truth of homeschooling.

There are a great many points to take issue within the article but only a few are mentioned here.

- States with stricter homeschooling regulations have not produced smarter students and it hasn't made homeschool students in those states more "social" than those in less regulated states.  It is even suggested that stricter regulations include mandatory teaching of the theory of evolution.

- The claim that parents can counteract evolution and immoral instruction by talking with their children about it when they come home at the end of the school day shows that the author is not only out of touch with homeschooling but public  schools as well.  Otherwise he would know that teachers often tell their students not to discuss those issues with their parents and that the public school system creates an, "us against them" mentality.

- The idea that homeschoolers don't teach true science and the scientific principles simply because they may be Creationists shows another level of ignorance.  One commenter even suggested that  if a student believes in Creation then they won't be able to graduate with medical or science degrees.  Obviously they have no idea how many Dr.'s and scientists don't believe in evolution.

- The author advocates that homeschooling shouldn't be outlawed and should be available for students whose lives are in danger.  That pretty much qualifies every school age child!

Homeschool parents are not weak minded lemmings.  They have witnessed for themselves what is taking place in public schools and have determined to offer something better for their children because they can.  This includes counteracting a theory with scientific principles.

If you think about it evolution requires more "faith" to believe than creation. The evidence for a divine design is massive. The missing link is... well, um, MISSING!

The fossil record supports creation.

However, the belief in creation naturally (I believe) leads to the truth of a worldwide flood and to believe in a worldwide flood is to believe in a just and righteous God who will discipline and correct and that is just too much for some.

It is amazing to me that people easily accept "billions and billions of years ago..." and such statements. At least CHECK IT OUT... don't just blindly believe!

Okay, enough venting for me!

:)

You know, that guy is completely oblivious to any sort of truth. And so are most of his commentors. People can be so ignorant.

Very upsetting thread to read. I wanted to comment on it, but had to be a member and did not have time at the moment. Maybe later.

I would say - "Your public school education is showing. This was incredibly ignorant, and you obviously did not take time to do your homework. Furthermore, you've bought your public school NON scientific evolution lie. Did they teach you that to believe in evolution you must accept at least 4 presuppositions? In other words, you have to assume that certain things are true, with no facts to back it up. I was also taught in the public school system, and they forgot to tell me about presuppositions. I bet they've never told anyone. You also fail to recognize that several scientists that (GULP!) who were creationists gave to us in leaps and bounds (like Galileo, Newton ... more ... do your homework!). Also, do your homework here: http://www.nheri.org/ and see for yourself how homeschooling benefits our young people. Government controlled schools ... YOU CAN HAVE THEM! Me, I'll educate mine at home. Every read anything by John Taylor Gatto? DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!"

There, I feel so much better. Later, I'll copy and paste that into a real comment on the real thread. If it isn't too complicated to join.

I had to register and leave a comment. I'm wsd and I left the comment on 5/28. The third comment left about "wealthy homeschoolers" just cracked me up. I'm not sure I know any independently wealthly homeschool families.

I have to go now, I'm late for my manicure. Should I take the Lexus or BMW? ;)

I came by to check in and say Hi, and ended up on this article. Grrrr. I had a lot of thoughts that I won't make you endure. Grrrr is the mild version--Infuriated might be another word. Mouth agape at the stupidity would be the visual.
Come by and see Briana's graduation photos. My beautiful, smart, conservative Christian, creationist, homeschooled daughter, who has no trouble making friends, is very active outside the home, who unashamedly loves the Lord (and yet is very capable of thinking for herself), who scored very high on her ACT, and will prosper at her calling, as the Lord promises, inspite of the fact that her public school educated mother with only 2 years of college, and certainly no teaching degree, was in charge of her education!
