Master Teacher ~ Seek Him Early - CONTEST!!!

2:22 AM, Jul. 17, 2007
Psalm 63:1 says, "O God, You are my God. Early will I seek you."

I have a bad habit of seeking Him LATE! If I could just get the concept of seeking Him early, things would go so much smoother - if not in my circumstances - at least in my troubled heart and soul.

What does it mean to seek Him early? How early is early? Is this only limited to hours in a day, as in seeking Him early in the morning, or could it mean something else as well?

In my mind, it seems that seeking Him early is seeking Him BEFORE I start the day - before anything else grabs my attention. Sometimes that is difficult if like me, you find yourself awakened by your children who are early risers. If this is the case, grab those kids and kneel down at the couch together or snuggle in bed together and teach them how to seek Him early as well.

Another way to seek Him early is to seek Him BEFORE the need arises. We normally wait until there is a need before seeking Him. But if we reverse that and seek Him before a need arises, seek Him early in the crisis, we are able to face that need in full knowledge that the LORD can work in us both to will and to do His good pleasure - no matter what the circumstance.

Seeking Him early is showing Him the reverence and importance and priority He deserves. Waiting to seek Him is putting Him off as a second thing - something we will get to if we can. Relationships don't last when one party is put off to a more convenient time.  The LORD desires relationship with us. He desires to be first place in our lives. I am convicted and convinced that my needs and turmoils would be less and my peace and rest would be more if I practiced this more regularly.

My uncle made a CD of scriptures he put to song and it is called, "Seek Him Early" based on the scripture in Psalms mentioned above. This is a beautiful CD bathed in scripture and prayer. I want to give away 5 (five!) of these to the first five people who leave a comment here with your thoughts on "Seeking Him Early". Leave your name and email address and I will contact you to get your mailing address.

Let's practice seeking Him early this week and make it a new habit of giving Him first place in our lives.

Your friend in the journey,

Deborah Wuehler

Seeking early...

4:55 AM, Jul. 17, 2007, posted by MOMatHWTK
I too have been trying to make a habit of thinking of God first in my day. I admit I've been having trouble though as I am often rushed and trying to get too many things done too quickly. On most days though, I try to say a little prayer before I even get out of bed. Then I continue to consult with the Lord throughout the day. Also, if I sense that I am struggling to improve in an area, I seek His guidance and assistance rather than trying to fix it all on my own. I am reading the Bible study "Becoming A Woman of Prayer" and have really learned a lot about gaining a better relationship with God.

Seeking him Early

Seeking God early in the morning can be a challenge. Usually I wake up early and read the news on the net. I have gotten into the habit of reading my email as well. In the emails I am recieving the scriptures are sent to me automatically. Bible in a year, devotionals, and news from cross walk. This has helped me so much in focusing in the morning on God. Then the children wake and I am ready for them. Ready for their devotional. I do have trouble sometimes in seek God in a crisis. If I had been talking to him all along my heart would be more settled. You think you can handle it and then realize what you are missing. I will have to work on that one.

Great challenge!

Seeking God early - in the morning - is a struggle for me too. My morning routine is to get DH (and sometimes, like today, oldest DS) off to work and then I get my alone-time at the computer with my morning coffee. How much better would my days go, if I took even just a piece of that time to start my day with Scripture and prayer? I guess I should plan to find out.

Blessings,
Kym

many rewards in seeking Him early

9:19 AM, Jul. 17, 2007, posted by ourhomeschool
I have found that the days that I remember to seek Him early, is the days that I am able to get soo much more done. I like to get up before the kids and have quiet time reading the Bible. It seems as the days I forget or don't make the effort, I accomplish very little. It's important for me to keep Him first!

Many blessings! ~Krista

Your uncle had a wonderful idea! I do find it hard to seek him early, with early risers in the family, and lack of sleep at night when kids wake me in the middle of the night. But it is so important for us as believers to make seeking God their priority.

Praise God that no matter when we seek Him he is always there! Another take on the verse could be seeking Him early in life (just a thought). I know it starts the day right at our house when we spend time with God first thing otherwise it can get put off and then before I know it, it's bedtime! Continuing to seek Him ("pray without ceasing") throughout the day blesses me as well!

Thanks everyone!

I received my CD today and am eagerly looking forward to a quiet moment to start listening. Thank you so much for kindly sending me this wonderful resource.

I have continued to seek by finishing my Becoming a Woman of Prayer study (and am looking forward to receiving several other books by this author from Library and Educational Services thanks to TOS' e-mail alert telling me that they were on sale!) I have also started to read The Bible in 90 Days with my family and posted a blog entry about our progress. Plus for my personal time I am reading "The Creed" which is a brief overview with scriptural references of each element of the Apostle's Creed. I have not always done this much extra reading, don't think I'm that dedicated! But I have found that the more I make the time, the more of my time I enjoy.

I hope all of you have found interesting and fulfilling ways to draw closer as well.

Be Blessed,
T.
