Tis the season for thirsty children! My children play hard outside--I wouldn’t have it any other way. The transition from the wild outdoors to our quiet, peaceful home can be a challenge for a herd of thirsty buffalo (er um children). Instead of trying to direct them away from all the things they shouldn’t do, I give them a simple routine they should do!
As they come through the door, I'll quietly chime, "Watering spots, please." One of the eldest pours water for herself and her siblings, then joins the other children at the watering hole–which happens to be up against the kitchen cabinets. Knowing where to be prevents aimless wandering, and tames the chaos considerably. (Besides, it is fun to gather at the watering hole!)
