Sewing with a Beach towel.
Two weeks ago when I was preparing to go on vacation to the beach, I realized I didn't have a beach bag. Having 4 children and needing all the essentials that are required of a toddler. I thought I better get something. Buying one just didn't seem like something I wanted to spend a lot of money on. So I went up to our bathroom and picked our a towel to make my own beach towel beach bag. It was very simple to make , Although I am not very good at sewing I thought I would share the idea with you. Others that are better and modify .

For creating my beach bag I went up and found a semi older towel. I bet though you could really create a beautiful bag with a bright beach towel.
1. Buy a beach towel that fits your personality by style and color. It should be any average single size beach towel. You dont want the mammoth towels.
2. Determine the size you want. Lay the towel out flat and fold it in half to help you determine size. Then cut some of the top and off the sides if need for the size you want. I didn't measure exactly so you will have to measure and adjust for what you want.
3. Hem the just cut edge of the towel to have a finished edge.
4. Fold the towel in half with right sides together.
5. Sew the towel together on each side while right sides are still together.
6. Using the extra that you cut of create 2 in strips for the handles.
7. Fold them in half with sides meeting and sew them together.
8. I had to hand sew the straps on my bag as the material was to heavy for my machine. I sewed them in the inside along the seem.
Add a button and button hole for added decoration and function. Also you can add fringe and ribbon for decoration. Voila you have a BEACH BAG!!
My beach bag worked wonderful but next time I want to try a more colorful bag. As I was sitting on the beach I took my Better Homes and Gardens magazine with me. Inside was a table cloth sewed from you guessed it a few beach towels. Then they had a bowl of shells on the table. I love this Idea and want to try that as well. I believe it was the JULY issue .
