Protecting Your Children...Online Safety & HSB Daily Happenings

Blogs are a growing trend, not only among adults but also among teens. While blogging can be a great writing tool, it can also be a breeding ground for sexual predators. While we may feel this is a safe place because we think we all homeschool, it just isn't so. People can lie.
We feel it is very important to provide a safe blogging environment for our children. Please take the time to talk with your children about Internet safety. Set guidelines and rules about blogging. Monitor their posts and comments they receive. Let them know what information is OK to give, and what information isn't.

My child (8 years old) uses several social networks for children. I monitor use closely and have been attracted to one social network in particular called woogi world. they have a parents section on the site that attempts to educate parents abou tall manner of subjects. I recently read an article on their parents page called "defining the meaning of safe" (http://www.woogiworld.com/parents/) that really makes one consider what safe really is for our children and for adults as well. I appreciate the homeschool blogger for all the information you provide and I hope your readers find this article helpful as parents determine how best to prepare their children for the 21st century.
