Salem Ridge Press Good Summer Reading Contest!

1:17 AM, Jun. 23, 2008

This contest is now CLOSED!
Winners will be announced soon!

The relaxing days of summer are a wonderful time to read, and yet for homeschool moms, taking a break from school doesn’t mean taking a break from your standards for your family’s reading materials.  You still want your children to read wholesome, well-written books.  We at Salem Ridge Press would like to help you by giving away some free books!

Salem Ridge Press is a publishing company, established in November, 2005, dedicated to bringing back quality children's books of the 1800's and early 1900's for a new generation of readers. As homeschoolers ourselves, we work hard to find and republish the very best books available so that we can help you provide books for your family that you can feel good about giving them.

A few months ago we sponsored a contest through The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and were delighted with the interest it generated.  We are striving to build our reputation with homeschoolers as a trusted source of excellent books, both for use as history supplements and simply for great reading.  Our hope is that once families have the opportunity to see and read one of our books, they will come back for more.  In our current contest, twenty-five families will each receive the softcover book of their choice from the eighteen titles we have republished so far.*  Then, we would like to bless one special family with a grand prize of a full set of all eighteen of our titles - that is approximately a $250 retail value!  We are excited to be sponsoring this contest and thrilled to share our books with you.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we have!

We also invite you to sign up on our website for our quarterly newsletter and another opportunity to win a free book.  We anticipate publishing seven more titles this year, and as we publish each new title, we will choose one family to receive a free copy.  Your family could be one of the first to read a newly republished title, many of which have not been in print for nearly a century!

*If a family selects Down the Snow Stairs, they will receive it in hardcover since it is not available in softcover.

To enter this contest you need to visit

www.salemridgepress.com/listing.html and browse through the books and then come back here and leave a comment on which book you would like to win.  Please give the exact book title as shown in the list.  Don't forget to tell all your friends about this great contest!

You must be at least 18 years of age to enter and live in the United States.  You do not have to have an HSB blog to enter this contest.  You will also need to leave a way to contact you, either by leaving your e-mail address in your comment below, (you can leave it cryptically) or by leaving a link to your blog or website where your e-mail address can be accessed.  I will not be leaving comments to notify you and if you don't leave a way for me to e-mail you then your entry won't go in the hat.
You can read full contest rules HERE

As stated above there will 26 winners for this contest!  Winners are chosen randomly.
Contest ends July 6th!

I've never heard of this series of books until now.

I think the The American Twins of the Revolution would be a hit with us... (as the majority of the others books would too I'm sure).

I would be delighted to win this book or the entire set for our homeschool library.

Thank you for the opportunity.

AWESOME Discovery of books

9:46 AM, Jun. 25, 2008, posted by Mileshouse
I've just returned from a missions trip to Brussels, Belgium where we worked with many redeemed women slaves (most from Africa & Latin America) who were sold into unmentionable circumstances to work the streets to buy their freedom. The church we assisted is seeing miraculous spiritual revival and healing with these courageous women who may never be allowed to return to their home country.

We would love to own Glaucia the Greek Slave in order to further discuss these issues with our children as they relate to the time period we're studying.

God Bless!

Our family loves good books, especially older, more trustworthy titles. I have managed to salvage many from my mother's attic, and am a hound for library book sales. Recently I discovered that I could find hundreds of godly, classic gems online, and have downloaded many to print. How much nicer, though, to have a real, solid book in your hands.
Thanks for the opportunity to enter your contest, but mostly may the good Lord bless the work you are doing to revive good reading!

Ok, you know it's late (12:30am) and time to go to bed when you keep forgetting to put all the information in your post. Silly and tired me. This is the life of a homeschooling Mom. Stay up late to put together the next days school work. We homeschool year round. So lets try this one more time.....

I enjoyed browsing your selections and look forward to seeing new additions to your collection. I think my kids would really enjoy "Mary Jane - Her Book" and it's sequel. They love stories about kids near their own age, and we like stories about kids in wholesome situations who honor their parents/adults.

Thanks for the opportunity to read the first chapter, too!

I hadn't heard of these books until now. They look wonderful!!! The one that caught my eye was "Down the Snow Stairs". We love allegories and anything that teaches that there are consequences to disobedience is always welcome here!

What a great list of books! It is hard to pick just one as 'The Sign Above The Door' would go well with our study of the Exodus, but I was left hanging after reading the first chapter of 'The American Twins of the Revolution' and so this is the one I would start with.
Thank you.

Hi, I would love to get The White Seneca because the age of the boy in the story is the same age as one of my boys and I love historical fiction as it helps the children learn while enjoying a good story.

Thank you for letting us know about Salem Ridge Books! We've already graduated one of our four from homeschooling BUT anyone who has been hs-ing this long knows how easy it is to overlook things with the youngest students in the family.

Our youngest learns very differently from all the rest, and went from Calvin and Hobbes to C.S. Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet just this very month. He was a delayed reader (finally comfortable with chapter books at age 11, but still not that interested in reading until NOW!).

These books sound like they are the perfect fit for his interest these days.

Our wish would be to read _Glaucia the Greek Slave_ by Emma Leslie, or Soldier Fritz by the same author.

With Affection!

Hello and thanks for having this contest and providing good books for our family to read. We are really interested in reading Mary Jane - Her Book because of the wholesome content. These are the values we are trying to instill in our daughters in a place where most of these values no longer exist. Also, the book is perfect for my daughter's age ranges. Thank you and God bless.

I had never heard of these books until now. They all look wonderful for our son. He loves books about history.

I think he would really enjoy "The American Twins of the Revolution". He loves anything that has George Washington in it. This would be a great addition to his library.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!
