Home Where They Belong ~ Keep Them Home, and Avoid Putting Them in the Hands of the Irresponsible!

Read this story and try and imagine yourself (your child) in this position:

So you take your 6 year old to the bus stop, and watch him get on the bus. Done. You drive away (or walk away, whichever the case), and have no idea whatsoever that the bus driver has turned the bus around and told your child to get off – he’s on the wrong bus (even though it is going to his school). The child is left standing on a corner all alone.

“Will another bus come?”

“Should I get on it?”

“What would Mom say?”

“What if another bus doesn’t come?"

“What should I do??”

Your child begins knocking on doors, asking for help, and some stranger puts him in their car and (fortunately) drives him to school.

What was that bus driver thinking?? But why should we wonder. How well do we know the bus driver anyhow, or anyone else that has contact with your child on any given day in school? These are strangers, and we are putting a lot of trust in them.

If you haven’t made the decision to homeschool, it’s not too late to get on board for this year. The above bus driver is not “the reason,” or rather, “the only reason,” but the situation certainly is something to consider. There are many reasons I homeschool: To have time with my children, and be the main influence in their lives; to teach them our faith on a daily basis, while we live it out together as a family; homeschooling is better academically; to provide the right kind of socialization (family based!). Shall I go on? To allow children to learn at their own pace; to nurture relationships between siblings; to be the one making the choices concerning curriculum; because God made families, whereas the public school is a man made entity … to keep them out of irresponsible hands, like the above mentioned bus driver.

The list could keep going, but isn’t that enough? Oh, yes, there are days with tears. But as I’ve cried those tears out to God, He has provided answers, and we have grown in relationship with each other and with God. There are also days of joy, and mediocre days. When all is said and done, I am so glad we homeschool. No regrets. Enjoying one day at a time, with the children home where they belong.

I didn't like my bus driver when I was growing up. She drove like a mad woman, and almost drove us off into ravine. I am always telling my kids about how terrible it is to ride a school bus, and that they are very fortunate to be able to stay home with me and learn together.

I homeschool our two boys and I also drive a school bus. I know each and every child on the bus and their parents. I communicate with their parents on their behavior and anything else going on. I will pick up the phone or drive to their house to talk to them if I have to. lol !!
The worse that could happen is the school district could fire me for trying to keep these kids in line, but most parents are thankful I will tell them what is going on.
Most drivers do not care, you are right. Alot of teachers do not care, but some are awesome!

There are many reasons I homeschool. After working for our schools and sending our boys there, I decided to homeschool. I was so scared at first, because it is just not the "normal" thing. That is what I thought at that time. I was even told by my supervisor that if I decided to homeschool, that our county transportation boss would not like that at all!!! Evidently not, because he will not look my way or even speak and he was my 7th grade math teacher.

I have more people backing me now than EVER! Family stands behind me and parents of the kids on my school bus have asked me if I could teach their children in my home.
It is amazing how much our life has changed since bringing the boys home.
To teach my youngest to read has been the best thing about homeschooling so far. Knowing he accomplished something that I taught him how to do is the best feeling!
I have been around other bus drivers and teachers that have no business being around kids. Some literally hate kids it seems like.
Well, I love my kids on my school bus and the insurance and income helps us out!! I just wish there were more people that loved kids and would do the same.
I'm not trying to change the schools, because if they were perfect, I would still homeschool.
But, I sure do love to see my school bus crew !!!!
