After a fabulous week in the mountains, we are diving back into school! Before leaving I reworked our schedule slightly. It looks frightening on paper, but flows well in reality.
I like having a written version of our routine, but the schedule is really just that--a routine. We fit it to our life instead of the other way around. Mostly it is just the pattern we've already fallen into naturally.
I've never been a fan of over-scheduling. Use only as much structure as will help and not hinder. For some families just having meals and bedtimes roughly defined will suffice. For many years that worked well for us. Life got more complicated recently, and I had to choreograph with more precision. In a few years, perhaps I’ll be able to go back to something less meticulous. (Or does it get worse before it gets better?)
For those who have asked (Tia, this is for you!) I make our charts in Microsoft Excel. It gives me neat columns and rows that I can fit to my needs and color code to my hearts content.
I can't imagine my schedule being of interest to anyone who doesn’t reside in my home, but in the interest of triva, I’ll post it anyway.
(I’m sure you really want to know when we eat breakfast, right?)
