As I was repotting plants last week one of the children said, "Mommy, that looks like fun! Is it?" After a moment of stunned consideration, I realized it was! They’ve asked the same thing when I iron, juice oranges, or grate carrots. Each time it catches me off guard. Children have a happy knack for finding fun even in their routine chores, and their cheerful example inspires me to do likewise.
When I think about it, most of my daily routine is quite enjoyable–if I take time to view it as joy. Sadly it often slips my mind to notice. Too frequently I drudge through each job just to move on to the next.
As mothers, we remind ourselves to capture and treasure the moments with our children–we seek to enjoy each fleeting stage. Do we seek to treasure the other gifts from God? Life can be either a blur of obligation or a source of fulfillment–all depending on whether we consciously decide to live in the present.
As you tame the chaos this week, don’t forget–it really is fun!
