Shop with the Bloggers!

3:08 PM, Nov. 21, 2008

A couple of years ago we thought it would be fun to have all homeschool blogger businesses in one spot to make it easier to find them for the holiday shopping season. It was such a big hit, it's been decided to keep it going! If you listed your business in the previous Shop with the Bloggers promo, please note that you will need to do so again. We're starting with a clean slate. Also, if you have the Shop with the Bloggers button on your blog sidebar, please replace with the new button below as the source page is now here on HomeschoolBlogger.com.

Instead of fighting the crowds at the malls and shopping centers, wouldn't you rather support your fellow bloggers home businesses?  Many folks want to shop with home businesses rather than the big superstores, but sometimes it's just harder to find them. Never fear though, we decided to make a list of these businesses to make your online shopping easier.

If you have a business and would like to share it with the blogosphere, please do the following:

  • Add the name of your business in the Mr. Linky box below.

  • Link it to your business website. If that's your blog, GREAT!

  • Leave a comment telling us about what you have to offer or any specials you might have.

  • Copy the shopping button code below to add to your sidebar or website. Even if you don't have a business, you can use the button to support our bloggers with home businesses.

  • ~Note, this is a family-friendly website. Any links deemed inappropriate will be deleted.~

Whether you are a shopper or home business owner, feel free to add our Shop with the Bloggers button to your sidebar to support our fellow bloggers!

*If you are having trouble pasting this code into a post, start a new entry page>click source>add the code where you would like it to show up and then click preview entry. If the button is there, you can then go back and edit your post in the normal setting.

Happy Shopping!

Homeschooling Only One

1:41 PM, Nov. 21, 2008, posted by DonnaC
You may have an only child, have toddlers or a baby not ready for home educating yet, or have other children who are getting their education elsewhere while you homeschool only one--you may be a grandparent homeschooling a grandcdhild. You may be a homeschool leader who would like to know about the challenges those with only one face in your homeschool support group. You may be totally new to homeschooling and don't know how many children you may have.

_Homeschooling Only One_ is a great book to help YOU! It covers various methods and shows you what materials one homeschool family used from "Kindergarten" thru "8th grade."

books for Christmas

4:45 AM, Nov. 22, 2008, posted by authorDonna
Do you have a teen or adult in the home who loves to read a good suspense story? If you like authors such as Frank Peretti, Robert Ludlum, Ted Dekker then you'll like "Vengeance" "Redeemed" or "The Adam & Eve Project" written under the pen name Donna Dawson. If you want a small booklet about homeschooling for someone who is thinking about it try "Thriving in the Home School" by Donna Fawcett. If you like Chicken Soup books try "Hot Apple Cider"

Stellan Supports String of Pearls

10:30 PM, Nov. 29, 2008, posted by DragonflyPrincess
I know a wonderful Christian blogger who has a set of home businesses lined up to support a great charity called String of Pearls (read their mission statement at http://www.stringofpearlsonline.org/Mission.html ). Her blog name is MckMama and her month-old son, Stellan, was not supposed to be here today according to their doctors this summer. Their story is amazing proof of the power of prayer, but now they are giving back to a great support organization for those who are facing a fatal diagnosis for their pre-term babies. Click over from the Mr. Linky link to Stellan Supports String of Pearls for the list of home businesses and mention that you are participating in the program. Your purchase will allow these businesses to donate a portion of the proceeds to a very worthy cause. I volunteered to post the information here on her behalf. Please note: Although the post is dated 2007, this IS a current program.

Amazing Family Business & Ministry

10:01 AM, Dec. 10, 2008, posted by Rambling Rose Alpacas
Our family, with 2 home schooled teens, wanted to find an enterprise that would allow all of us to be involved and be able to be used as a ministry as well. We began Rambling Rose Alpaca Ranch 1 1/2 years ago. Our 2 year goal being to sell some of our alpacas. Our shorter term goal was to have a fiber store. We opened our on-site farm store this year and sell alpaca products, some of which we knit and weave and spin, but also outsource some items. My sister brings her stained glass items over and another friend adds her items to our store to make it more well rounded. When we have an open farm day, my husband and I usually do primarily the barn tours and my daughters handled the store completely. If I wander in to try to assist, they would rather do it on their own, as they have developed their own system. One daughter works on the website, the other prefers working with the alpacas and halter trains all of them. Not only do we now have a growing business, but we open our ranch to challenged groups of children and adults and also provide mittens, socks and other necessities to children in crisis situations. We started that years ago, by offering free backpacks full of necessities and comfort items to children in crisis situations. This new venture with alpacas has gone hand in hand with that. Our internet sales also allows a chance to touch lives with on-line communication, which I (Mom) am in charge of. Sometimes a short piece of communication shares a hurting or needy person and opens a door to share and encourage. I know we have blessed many, but we are truly the ones that are blessed. We are thankful and our daughters have learned so much from this venture. Responsibility (chores), business ethics, creativity(spinning, knitting), caring, etc.
Alpacas require a small area and have a gentle, perceptive personality that have been a fun and growing business for us. Please see our website for more information. We have moved ahead of our goal and now have alpacas for sale! It would only take a couple of alpacas to begin this venture. We now have 14 alpacas and 2 llamas. http://lambkinwool.googlepages.com/ramblingrosealpacaranch

Design Your Homeschooling Approach

Working out why and how you homeschool takes time and is different for every family. As your family changes, the needs, the tools, the structure changes too.

The aim of my website is to help new and veteran homeschoolers (in a step by step way) to keep their focus, review their goals and find and design an approach which works. I cover how to teach different subject areas in different ways, curriculum reviews, recommended resources, homeschool printables and more.

I sell fully customized homeschool planners, made in consultation with you, to help you organize your home and schooling needs.

I have also written an integrated language arts ebook based on The Hobbit. See "Modeling the Classics - Language Lessons based on The Hobbit" here:
