Happy Easter my dear friends! This past week the Lord has been sharpening my focus. I realized that I was becoming overly concerned with academic performance and other vitally important areas were suffering. I had let our daily Bible study slide to just once or twice a week. We had also been reading about missionaries around the world and I would forget to add that in. Thanks to the Lord's gentle reminder we got back on track.
I was reading a profile of David Livingstone's to the children this week. I was driven to tears. Here is a man, a doctor, well educated and easily able to make a comfortable living in Scotland, who feels the call of the Great Commission so keenly he goes to Africa. There he finds the love of his life and years later she dies in Africa. He is attacked by a lion, 27 bouts of jungle fever, depravation of food and water, living in poverty. All this because the words of Jesus.
When Dr Livingstone was found kneeling in prayer, dead, his Bible was open to Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Dr Livingstone wrote on the side, "The Word of a Gentleman"
I looked at the faces of my lovely children. I thought, if I can help them find that kind of drive and devotion to the Lord, then there are no barriers. Whether they have a disability or not their faith in the Lord is what matters; their trust in the Lord's commands, and a heart felt desire to fulfill them.
Dr Livingstone had such a pure, solid faith because he believed in the risen Lord Jesus Christ! Faith in the Lord is the most important thing you could possibly teach your child.
God bless! Happy Easter!
