This month's HSB Blogging Basic's e-Newsletter is all about site-meters. If you didn't receive the newsletter but would like to, please email me and I will send you a copy. (Please wait until Friday before emailing me, this post has to go up on the Porch in order to link to it in the newsletter and so the newsletter hasn't gone out just yet!)
From the June Blogging Basics:
Now, one last thing that makes having a site-meter so much fun is being able to see why a person came to your blog to begin with. For a few months there I had people from all over the world visiting my personal blog to learn all about Pooh Sticks. Which is nice and gives you a 100 acre wood, cozy kind of feeling. So why's that important? If you know why people are stopping by your blog you can cater to your readers--give them more of what they are coming for. That will also help push your blog to the top of search engines for that particular topic. Don't get too prideful about it though, your rankings can quickly fall, but it's still fun to see where you stand on the World Wide Web.
Blog Tip Challenge of the Month
If you have a site-meter find out why people are stopping by your blog and cater to their good-clean interests. Once you post your entry on your blog leave us a comment with a link to your post, here on the HSB Company Porch Blog Tip Challenge. The most amusing topic will win And Then Mama Said . . . It Takes Time to Learn to Read in honor of the Summer Reading Program kick-off!
I am a TOS Crew member, so not eligible for the contest ... but I have watched my site meter in the past. The two that make me laugh are "toddler science experiments" and "dangers of elmer's glue". They make me laugh because I know people who come to my blog because of them are probably looking for serious information. But the Elmer's glue post was about what happens if you leave the glue out and your 2 yo gets it ... a big mess. And the toddler science experiments was about the fact that my 2 yo melted my vacuum crevice tool, so the tip is bent 90* ... and we weren't sure what she melted it on. So those two searches (which occur often) make me laugh.
I don't want to know what the "middle-aged moms" searches are really looking for. I prefer to assume they're concerned about pregnancy in their 30s. *knowing nod*
my HSB and HSB2 blogs use no-right-click script, Active Meter, Google Analytics, Flooble Expandable Content Boxes, and a couple BlogRolls from blogrolling. Hmm. I think that's it.
I blog over at homesteadblogger and I use the no right click script--the no copy and paste script--site meter--and one from verse a day--I think thats it!
Thanks
