Blog Tip Challenge of the Month ~ Those Pesky Blog Moving Problems

4:51 PM, Jun. 26, 2009
Our fabulous tech support is working to automate the migration of *almost*
everything, but the most likely thing to be lost will be template customizations
that have broken or invalid template tags. If you have made any of your own changes to your blog template, we will be moving it over exactly as you have it, but if you do have broken or invalid template tags, then we can't guarantee they will work on the new HSB platform.

Some scripts will also be removed, though there will be ways to add certain types of scripts back in once you're at the new blog site.

Tech Support does have a good idea of the most popular scripts, but it's the lesser
popular ones that they need to know about to make sure your whole blog will move over and work properly once it is moved.

Blog Tip Challenge of the Month

Here's what we need from you, the scripts you use on your sites so we can provide you the ability to enable those scripts after the migration. Scripts such as: Google Analytics, Sitemeter, "no right click" and so on. Let us know what those scripts are by leaving a comment right here on the HSB Company Blog Tip Challenge. Sorry, no contest this month, but we do appreciate your help in making this move easier for everyone!

oh, my, I've got such a hodgepodge---I use sitemeter, baptist top 1000, a christianbook.com search box, widgetbox, cbox, no right click. Is that any help?

Script to fix browser window size

1:32 PM, Jul. 1, 2009, posted by DragonflyPrincess
I added a script to the top of my template to "force" the browser window to a size that will allow my custom template background to NOT interfere with my sidebars. (Mostly sets the width of the window). It reads like this:

{script type="text/javascript"}
window.resizeTo(1024,1000);
{/script}

Of course, I changed the brackets above around the script tags because I wanted to be sure you could see it :-)

Hopefully, the new blogging platform will eliminate the need for this (I had so much trouble making a background that would work across browsers and screen resolutions so I finally gave up trying to please everyone and did the "quick and dirty" thing by adding the script), but if you could include it in your conversion until I can see how the new platform will perform, that would be great!

I also use statcounter, projectplaylist, TOS affiliate banners, my background is formatted as a script, I guess I just have lots of scripts! I have a couple things based on what I think is flash as well, does that count? (I am so non web savvy... Looking forward to a less work-intensive blogging experience!)

(Do we have any idea on a timeframe for the conversion date?)

Thanks!

Here ya' go! :o)

I think this is a pretty neat idea -- listing what we use on our blogs. Maybe I can look over the replies and investigate other fun & neat little scripts! LOL
