Special Words for Special Needs ~ Water Fun for Parents with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
9:43 AM, Jul. 13, 2009
Midsummer is here and it's hot. This last week around the Porch we have been chatting about water fun. In the past I have talked about how water can be a blessing helping your sensory child. Today however I would like to talk about you mom or dad.
Today more and more people are being diagnosised with fatigue problems such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Being a parent with a chronic illness is hard. Add your responsibilities as a teacher and leader in your home and there isn't enough energy in the day. I have lupus and with it comes lots of fatigue. I have been trying to find ways to up the energy that I have.
I have decided that I need to optimize my health. That means that I am trying to lose some weight. I have Celiac disease so I am being more careful in what I eat. I have also decided to start exercising.
Here's where the water comes in! Water therapy or water aerobics. This form of exercise is great. Your body is supported by the water while you exercise. There is also a great deal of resistance and work for you muscles in a short span. One word of warning take it easy, a little at a time. I pushed it and collapsed when I got out of the water.
I do believe that by taking the time to care for myself I am helping the family. I will be healthier now. I will be able to spend more time working with the kids or going on a field trip. I will also be alive longer. I already have a chronic illness to add unhealthy habits to that is a disaster waiting in the wings.
Parents add some water fun to your summer! I hope you too strive for healthier habits. I pray that exercise will help restore some of your energy so that your homeschooling journey will be a delight!
God bless
